The combined North American business now has more than 900 employees, operates across 40 locations, including 8 brick plants, 26 masonry supply center/retail locations and 3 Design Studios.Basic FunctionThe Plant Controller is responsible for the overall administration of the accounting function at the plant level.This responsibility includes budget preparation, product costing, capital expenditure (cap-ex) evaluation, monthly closing, forecasting, variance reporting/analysis, and assisting plant management by providing quantitative data to identify and control high cost areas.Responsibilities:Coordinate month-end reporting including inventory valuation, account reconciliations, preparation of general ledger entries and accrualsPrepare weekly forecasts and annual budget in conjunction with plant management teamInitiate, implement and maintain a plant reporting system to keep management aware of operating costs in all areasAnalyze plant data and advise management as to areas of possible cost reductionMonitor and review internal accounting controls and implement changes where necessary to safeguard corporate assetsImplement and maintain individualized product costsReconcile and analyze various plant accounts, i.e., parts and supplies inventory, transportation reserve and accrued plant repairsOversight of monthly physical inventories, including the training of personnel in the cutoff of shipping and receiving information and control of actual yard countsDevelop and implement reports detailing variances of actual versus budget amounts for plant operating budget, labor budget and raw materialsPrepare cap-ex requests including payback projections and discounted cash flow and monitor status of projects until completion.Organize and present plant operations data to non-financial personnel and highlight areas for potential improvementProvide ad-hoc support to the Operations Finance Manager as may be requiredEducation and experience requirementsBS/BA Degree in Accounting or FinanceCPA/CMA qualified or working towards certification preferredRelevant experience (five + years) in a manufacturing environmentWell-developed analytical skills and experience in forecasting, budget preparation, and product costingProficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPointExperience with a larger ERP solution such as JD EdwardsMust be willing to travel up to 5-10% of time outside of assigned locationsThis job description is not intended to be all inclusive and as such, the employee will also be required to perform other reasonably related business duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or other management personnel as required.
