Patient Access Specialist Responsibilities:

  • Greet patients and visitors with professionalism and empathy, creating a welcoming environment
  • Collect and accurately enter patient demographic and insurance information into electronic medical records systems
  • Verify insurance coverage and eligibility, ensuring compliance with payer requirements
  • Assist patients in understanding their insurance benefits, financial obligations and available payment options
  • Schedule patient appointments, procedures and tests according to provider availability and patient preferences
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and obtain necessary authorizations as required by insurance plans
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to address patient inquiries, concerns and special needs
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations and best practices


Patient Access Specialist Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelors degree preferred
  • Previous experience in healthcare administration, patient registration or related field preferred
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance plans and healthcare regulations preferred
  • Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care
