Position Description

The Design Engineer develops 3-D CAD models and engineering drawings of products and tooling in accordance with standards and practices. The Design Engineer must be proficient in the use of SolidWorks and have a degree in Mechanical Engineering.The Design Engineer maintains the drawing databases and PDM directory. The Design Engineer works with the Process-Engineering and Manufacturing personnel to assess, troubleshoot and improve tooling.

Job Duties

  • Uses Solidworks to develop 3-D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings of products in support of new business
  • Leads the design and modification of press tooling
  • Maintains drawing databases and PDM information as required
  • Maintains and improves drawing practices in accordance with relevant standards and best practices
  • Works with Engineering and Production personnel to troubleshoot and improve tooling
  • Act as primary contact with tooling vendors in the refurbishment and manufacture of new tooling
Key Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in SolidWorks 3-D CAD software for design and drawing of mechanical parts and assemblies
  • Familiar with ASME Y14.5 requirements, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Understanding of material selection and plating processes required for tool optimisation
  • Familiar and proficient in use of mechanical gauges, including micrometers, calipers and ID gauges
  • Ability to read and interpret customer design proposals, blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics and computer-generated reports
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiar in use of typical software: MS Office, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Excel
