Job Description

Sr. Securities IT Project Manager

The Business Support Senior Project Manager is responsible for providing technical and project management support for the Comerica Securities business unit. This unit has our new Investment Banking team, Debt Equity Capital Markets team and part of the Loan Syndications operation.

The individual in this role, as the senior operations team member, provides technical and analytical guidance to management and the project team as a representative of Comerica Securities business unit. Specfically, responsibilities include performing detailed analysis of various projects and requests; developing designs for projects that have medium to high complexity; formulating procedures; monitoring key performance indicators; as well as testing and implementing advanced business solutions. The individual in this position is also coordinating projects, systems and processes for the business unit. In addition, the individual in this role provides technical support for complex system management activities related to system software, hardware, performance, problem determination or resource management requiring communication and coordination with vendors, technicians, clients, and management. Failure of the systems could result in sanctions by FINRA and the SEC and could have significant impact on our customers as well as potential financial and/or market share loss.

Position Responsibilities
Project Management
Design Methodology
  • Work closely with business units, application teams, infrastructure areas and vendors to identify, review and evaluate the solution requirements.
  • Investigate and propose strategic fits for virtualization, consolidation and rationalization solution opportunities within the infrastructure or business.
  • Propose changes to the technical design solutions as applicable.
  • Evaluate and align strategic fit solutions across platforms and solutions specific to system hardware and software technologies.
  • Understand, participate, review and influence long term capacity planning and technology investments.
Planning Organizing
  • Map requirements into standard services solution, identify opportunities for integrating to existing or reuse technology and provide cost effective solutions for moderate to large highly complex project/programs/initiatives.
  • Review, identify and manage requirements for moderate to complex solutions and do a cost value, feasibility and risk analysis.
Project Execution
  • Manage and monitor project budgets with a focus on approved technical funding and technical cost containment. Ensures cost changes have accurate and timely approvals and follow corporate and department standards, policies and procedures.
  • Manage technical vendor team, and tracks and reviews vendor deliverables.
  • Responsible for on-time delivery and execution of critical Technology projects and initiatives to deliver business value.
  • Works with core project team (such as business partners, vendors and technical team) to develop detailed, actionable project schedules. Assigns tasks to team and develops detailed and accurate work schedules, project estimates, and resource plans.
  • Executes, monitors and controls technical projects from original concept through final implementation. Communicates accurate and timely project accomplishments and overall project health to stakeholders via required measures and methods (such as status reports, metrics, checkpoints, portfolio reports, and scorecards).
  • Ensures support areas are engaged to drive effective training and turnover of technical solutions.
  • Monitors actual performance and compares it with the business unit target.
Risk Management
  • Lead efforts to proactively identify risk gaps in CSI data management and operational procedures.
  • Ensures adherence to all government, corporate and department standards, policies and procedures in all technical artifacts, tasks and decisions across the technical team.
  • Works to ensure all artifacts adhere to standards, policies and procedures.
  • Proactively manages project risks and risk mitigation plans.
Technical Consulting, Report Generation and Support
  • Perform problem analysis and provide client consulting and planning guidance as applicable for moderate to complex issues and/or reporting.
  • Research as well as design and implement resulting technical solutions with consideration for larger impact to organization. Solutions may involve the writing of Microsoft Application codes, and the linking of tables and/or data to automate manual processes and workflows.
  • Provide consultation and work closely with other functional infrastructure areas/departments on multiple initiatives to meet common organizational/business goals and objectives.
  • Communicate with and train key personnel on business processes, issues and resolution. Bring recommendations for business improvement to leadership.
  • Recognize recurring system problems on any Comerica Securities system and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Develops methods of dealing with the challenges faced within the course of carrying out daily activities.
