Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. Schedule: This position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options. Typically, 4 to 5 days per week in the field conducting regulatory oversight of the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant and related facilities. What You Will Do Serve as the departments lead engineer at the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Disposal Facilities during construction, overseeing technical issue resolution across the Waste Treatment Plant (WTP) and other treatment facilities under development. Represent the Nuclear Waste Program to external organizations on technical matters related to construction under dangerous waste permits. Plan and conduct investigations and develop solutions for complex environmental engineering challenges, applying advanced techniques across the WTP and other treatment facilities. What You Will Do (continued) Perform senior-level review of facility engineers inspection reports to ensure accuracy and consistent decision-making. Audit Bechtel National, Incs procedures to support USDOE requirements; review QA/QC programs and audits to ensure compliance; oversee IDF processes as needed. Review documentation required for certification of the WTP and other facilities, ensuring permit compliance. Review USDOE processes for final certification documentation; identify deficiencies and work with permittees to achieve voluntary compliance; perform similar functions for IDF processes. Coordinate construction drawings and specifications with permit design drawings, in collaboration with other engineers. Track IQRPE hold points and inspection schedules; communicate updates to the WTP team. Identify and document inspection opportunities across the facilities. Coordinate WTP construction engineers activities to maintain high technical standards. Conduct and supervise field inspections and site visits; follow program procedures for weekly inspections, prepare inspection reports, and coordinate with permit writers and inspectors. Maintain on-site presence at the WTP; review bi-weekly IQRPE reports and engage daily with USDOE inspectors to monitor construction activities and provide feedback for inspection planning. Required Qualifications:Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington or another state with equivalent requirements. Five (5) years of experience in environmental engineering. Note: Washington registration requirements may include additional experience and licensing steps. Applicants qualifying through licensing equivalency must achieve Washington PE registration within six months of appointment. See WA State Board information for details. Special Requirements/Conditions Of Employment Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license. Must meet USDOE badge requirements to access the Hanford Site and Waste Treatment Plant. Complete initial 40-hour HAZWOPER training within six months of appointment and annual 8-hour refreshers. Desired Qualifications Experience in design, construction, and/or operation of waste treatment systems; understanding of corrosion phenomena, chemistry impacts on waste systems; knowledge of environmental laws and regulations (e.g., WAC 173-303-640).
