Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a Virtual Triage Nurse (RN) to join our team These positions support the Virtual Care Program and work remotely. Candidates across Texas or elsewhere are considered if they hold an RN license recognized by the state of Texas. What does the Virtual Triage Nurse (RN) do? The telephone triage nurse assesses patient needs over the telephone, collaborates with physicians or qualified staff, and documents all elements of care. The nurse identifies high?risk conditions and directs care appropriately, ensuring patients are managed within the clinic whenever possible and escalation to other resources when necessary. Under general supervision, the nurse provides professional care in accordance with national and organizational standards and state licensing guidelines, participates in quality initiatives, and supports the US Oncology Compliance Program. Responsibilities Addresses patient calls, portal messages, and emails regarding symptoms or side?effects. Assesses urgency of patient symptoms and manages them aggressively to prevent unnecessary emergency department and hospital utilization. Documents all conversations with patients to maintain a comprehensive medical record. Provides clear instruction and education to patients via telephone. Collaborates with physicians via electronic communication, face?to?face, or telephone to discuss patient care needs that cannot be independently addressed. Sets up same?day and/or future provider or infusion room appointments to address symptom management concerns. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred. Minimum of 3 years oncology nursing experience required. Mid or senior level experience considered. Oncology or applicable specialty experience required. Current RN state license with the applicable State Board of Nursing. Current CPR certification required. Working Conditions The role is traditionally performed in an office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
