To assure that nursing care is delivered according to standards and policy. To assume responsibility for the department in the absence of the nursing administrator. To function as first-call resource in-house and consults with administrator on call as indicated. To perform job duties in accordance with the medical center's purpose. Education & Experience 1. Associate's degree in Nursing/Diploma . Bachelor's degree preferred. 2. Five (5) years of RN experience, two (2) of those years in a supervisory or managerial role. 3. Must be actively enrolled in a Bachelor's program within one (1) year of hire and remain in good standing until program is completed. 4. Valid RN license. Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: Valid RN license. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge and understanding of clinical patient care standards and procedures. Interpersonal skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Detail oriented. Analytical and conceptual skills. Leadership and management skills. Project management skills including the ability to effectively manage sources and expectations. Responsibilities * Implements and monitors implementation of established objectives, policies, and procedures concerning patients, visitors, staff, and/or physicians and participates in performance improvement activities. * Collaborates with nursing management to appropriately allocate staff according to census, acuity/needs, and budget and maintains accurate staffing and attendance records. * Directs subordinates during shift regarding their responsibilities, holds them accountable for the completion of work and patient care, and participates in performance appraisals and progressive discipline matters as indicated. * Provides direction and clinical expertise to staff members and disseminates important updates from nursing/administration council meetings and hospital administration. * Coordinates the efforts of all departments, including such functions as escort, lab, dietary, etc. * Collaborates with appropriate health-care team members in the follow-up of incident reports and resolution of problems involving patients, family members, and/or physicians and communicates actions to nursing administrator and/or administrator on call. * Serves on at least one nursing council, hospital, or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or work area demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service. * The duties listed are general in nature and are examples of the duties and responsibilities performed and are not meant to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
