Position Summary:

The Operational Excellence Specialist leads, facilitates and supports cross functional teams to improve and redesign operational processes critical to safe, high quality, efficient patient centered care by leveraging Lean Six Sigma methodologies. The Operational Excellence Specialist serves as an internal consultant and change agent focused on process improvement, workflow evaluation and re-design and assisting in the development of tools and training for the organization in the area of process improvement. The Operational Excellence Specialist interacts effectively with stakeholders, works with stakeholders to develop agreed-upon project plans, and ensures that project status reports and presentations are maintained as required by the project. The Operational Excellence Specialist consistently applies process improvement methodology coupled with change management strategies to projects in an effort to design new systems, workflows and processes well while re-engineering existing processes and systems to improve operations and safety and quality of care. As a facilitator, the goal of the Operational Excellence Specialist is to lead in optimizing workflows to positively impact performance related to quality, safety, service, operational effectiveness, and fiscal effectiveness. The Operational Excellence Specialist reports to the Assistant Vice President of Provider Network Services & Information Services.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's degree in business, Health Administration, Industrial/Systems Engineering, Health Science/Management, or other relevant fields is required.
Master's degree in healthcare related field preferred.
Lean and/or Six Sigma Experience required.

Experience
Minimum of five years of experience working in an operational environment in healthcare that must include two years of experience in supporting organization change, Project Management, Change Management, Performance/Process Improvement, applying Lean Six Sigma process improvement methods.

Licensure/Certification/Registration
Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent required
Lean Bronze certification or higher required
Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively to create a culture of trust with executive leadership, physicians, department heads, and other team members required.
Assist in the development of departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
Assist in the creation of metrics to monitor performance, operational improvements, and financial benefits.
Develop and communicate ongoing process improvements/lean management strategies and ensure alignment with the Hospital's mission, vision, and values and with other hospital wide initiatives.
Lead cross functional project teams through all phases of the process improvement life cycle using Lean and/or Six Sigma processes to solve identified chronic organizational challenges.
Maintain effective communication with hospital executives, senior management, operations council, and physicians throughout the organization regarding departmental activities.
Participate in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate.
Assist in the development of organizational strategies for process management and Lean; help to drive and monitor execution of that strategy.
Perform other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Explorer, Teams, and PowerPoint required.
Ability to identify opportunities for positive advancement even within difficult situations required.
Strong planning, organization, critical thinking, decision-making and communication (verbal and written) skills required.
