Job Description

Job Title: Estimator - Misc Metals and Steel Fabrication

Job Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for miscellaneous metals and steel fabrication projects, including stairs, railings, ladders, and other custom steel structures.

Responsibilities:
Estimating and Cost Analysis:
  • Review project plans, specifications, and other documents to understand the scope of work and project requirements.
  • Conduct quantity take-offs and material assessments to determine the amount of steel and other materials needed for each project.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead costs.
  • Utilize estimating software and tools to streamline the estimating process and improve accuracy.
Bid Preparation:
  • Develop and prepare comprehensive bid packages for submission to clients.
  • Analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitiveness and accuracy of bids.
  • Present estimates and proposals to clients, providing explanations and justifications as needed.
  • Assist in negotiating contracts and pricing with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Project Coordination:
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and pricing for bids and proposals.
  • Track and monitor project costs throughout the duration of the project, identifying and addressing any variances or changes.
  • Assist in the development of project budgets and schedules based on estimated costs and timelines.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and technological advancements to continuously improve estimating practices.
  • Implement value engineering and cost-saving strategies to enhance project profitability.

Requirements:
Bachelors degree in construction management, engineering, or related field preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in estimating within the metals and steel fabrication industry. Strong understanding of miscellaneous metals and steel fabrication techniques, materials, and processes. Proficiency in estimating software and tools, such as Bluebeam, Planswift, or similar programs. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail to accurately assess project requirements and costs. Effective communication and negotiation skills to interact with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to steel fabrication. Experience with value engineering and cost-saving strategies is a plus.
