Manges the needs as the primary supply chain interface with the manufacturing sites, senior management, and operations groups. This job is hybrid in nature and will require two days per week in the Auburn Hills, MI office.

Role Reports to: Purchasing Director

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for managing extended supply base to support USA plant operations for all direct component and/or subcontracted outsourced secondary operations as needed by the manufacturing sites.
  • Responsible for regional supplier sourcing for all direct component and/or subcontracted outsourced secondary operations. Including Research and evaluate suppliers, negotiate contracts, and manage relationships with suppliers; Managing RFQ development, timing and distribution; Facilitating supplier tech reviews with cross functional internal teams and approval of supplier; Ensuring capacity and technology to support strategic plan; Total cost analysis, including full risk assessment of supplier
  • Manage and resolve supplier disputes with respect to commercial and delivery issues
  • Lead cost reduction opportunities related to process improvements (lean initiatives) and quality improvements with suppliers
  • Develop and maintain appropriate links between supplier, purchasing, and manufacturing to ensure plant operational requirements are met
  • Issue and manage purchase orders with suppliers in a timely manner that follows best purchasing practices, which include QCDM metrics, and meets the business needs.
  • Work effectively with all levels of management in other departments, and cross-functional teams to support purchasing and business objectives
  • Support development of a world-class supply base for the purchasing department that meets or exceeds GKN Sinter Metals requirements.
  • Advise management of market conditions and supplier base activities which could affect pricing, quality and/or delivery.

Formal qualifications required:

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, supply chain management, or related field. – CQE, CPM or CPSM certification a plus
  • 5-7 years (post degree) experience, preferably in automotive/mechanical/manufacturing industry, with proven record in Conflict Management, Project/Program Management and Full Cycle Management of parts.
  • Knowledge of plant related machining, manufacturing processes and technology required. Hands on experience in machining, machine equipment specifications, consumable tooling, manufacturing engineering or similar a plus
  • Strong experience with contracts and negotiations related to contracts
  • Experience of working in a global organization. Automotive experience or industrial/plant setting required

  • Strong problem solving, analytical, and project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language
  • Fluent with MS Office products
  • Travel 25% domestically
  • Experience with Kaizen and Value Stream events
