Reports to: VP, Finance and Accounting
Gaetani Real Estate (GRE) has been providing professional property management services to San Francisco Bay Area property owners for over 75 years. About the job:
The Accounting Manager's primary responsibilities are to lead and supervise personnel and supervise daily operations of the accounting department. This role is critical in maintaining meticulous financial accuracy, guiding the team to meet all accounting deadlines, and delivering consistent, reliable financial information that upholds our reputation for excellence in property management.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management and Compliance:
Ensure that all financial statements are prepared with 100% accuracy and comply with GAAP standards, with zero compliance issues noted in annual audits.
Stay updated on accounting regulations and ensure compliance with internal controls.
Manage property budgets and identify variances.
Team Leadership:
Provide guidance and support to accounting staff, fostering a high-performing team environment.
Lead the Accounting Department, setting objectives aligned with company goals.
Recruit, train, and supervise accounting team members.
Assign projects, monitor progress, and ensure deadlines are met.
Process Improvement:
Assist in developing and implementing internal controls to safeguard company and clients’ assets.
Assist in implementing technology solutions to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
Achieve a 95% satisfaction rate on internal and external stakeholder feedback surveys regarding the timeliness, accuracy, and accessibility of financial data.
Produce accurate financial reports and communicate results to stakeholders.
Administrative Oversight:
Supervise the preparation of various financial documents, including Form 1099 and corporate invoices.
Manage corporate bank accounts and ensure proper banking procedures.
Assist in special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior management.
Desired Outcomes
Accurate Financial Reporting: Produce accurate and timely financial statements with zero material errors by the 15th of each month.
Budget Adherence: Ensure all properties operate within budget, identifying and addressing variances within 30 days.
Compliance: Maintain 100% compliance with all financial regulations and internal policies.
Key Competencies
Mastery of Accounting Principles : Deep understanding of GAAP, skilled in all aspects of financial management, including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Problem-Solving : Capable of identifying and resolving complex financial issues.
Leadership : Ability to lead and motivate a team towards achieving company goals.
Effective Communication : Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Adaptability : Flexible and able to thrive in changing environments and meet evolving demands.
Technical Skills : Proficient in real estate accounting software such as AppFolio, Yardi, etc., and must be proficient in Microsoft Excel.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
Experience : Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, preferably in property management or real estate.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards within the real estate industry.
Detailed knowledge of laws governing Trust Account compliance.
Experience with CAMs, RUBs, and Affordable Housing.
