Senior Staff Accountant| McCormick Place Convention Center

Overview:
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, the Senior Accounting Manager monitors, controls, and audits all financial transactions at the McCormick Place Convention Center/Wintrust Arena. This role performs a full range of professional accounting duties involved in fiscal management, record keeping, reporting and financial analysis of the facility.
This role will pay a yearly salary of $65,000 to $80,000

This position will remain open until October 30, 2024
Responsibilities:- Perform all general accounting functions including general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Key Catering Revenue data into accounting software for A/P, A/R, and general journal entries.
- Post and process catering adjustments and refunds in a timely manner.
- Post credit card transactions and electronic payments.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and select GL Accounts.
- Month End accruals
- Manage Event Deposit process for Convention Center and Arena.
- Verify & post entries to general ledger accounts; run trial balances.
- Assist with month end closing procedures and adjusting journal entries.
- Prepares select event settlements and generate account transfers or check payments.
- Perform analysis of accounting records; prepare event profitability statements.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and select GL Accounts.
- Examine and verify a variety of financial documents and reports.
- Assist Director of Finance with budget preparation, financial reporting, and analyses.
- Apply Federal, State, and local laws and regulations pertaining to accounting and auditing work.
- Other miscellaneous projects and duties as assigned by Director of Finance.
- Operate a ten-key calculator by touch at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
- Operate a computer to perform accounting functions.
Essential Job Functions
- While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time.
This position also requires constant use of interpersonal skills including, but not limited to ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, ability to recognize and resolve conflicts, and ability to openly communicate verbally and in writing with clients and co-workers.
Qualifications:- A minimum 2-4 years experience in accounting, finance, business administration or a closely related field.
- Or an equivalent of education and experience in the above.
- Must be accurate and efficient with ability to meet deadlines.
- Capable of working with all levels of management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
- Experience in using a professional accounting system(s). Sage or NetSuite system is a plus.
