As an Accountant within OptumHealth Regulatory Accounting and Reporting, you will be responsible for the preparation and analysis of the quarterly and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, changes in capital and surplus, statements of cash flow, and supplemental financial exhibits, pursuant to Statutory Accounting Principles ("SAP"), which are based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ("GAAP").You will prepare and record journal entries in accordance with SAP and Medical Loss Ratio ("MLR") requirements.In this position, the work volume peaks in the first quarter, followed by a more predictable schedule thereafter.

Additional responsibilities for this position include, but not limited to:

  • Prepare the annual audited financial statements or supplemental audited financial statements and documentation in support of external and internal audits. Provide support for Department of Insurance inquiries and examinations
  • Solve moderately complex problems and/or conduct moderately complex analyses, including non-standard requests
  • Participate on initiatives to develop and communicate innovative approaches for continued improvement in efficiency and effectiveness
  • Lead quarterly close calls with entity executives
  • Perform work in a self-directed manner
The ideal candidate will demonstrate resiliency and resourcefulness, willingness to develop oneself through on the job learning and experiences, effective communication with others and a drive to achieve results.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Driven to independently manage time and complete assigned tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Coursework to obtain degree must be completed prior to start of employment. Degree must be awarded and verified within 6-8 weeks following the commencement date at your school
  • Experience in Financial Statement preparation and/or audit
  • Experience with Hyperion SmartView and PeopleSoft Financials
  • Healthcare industry experience
  • Understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles and accounting for regulated entities
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and leadership potential
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated presentation skills
