Under the direction of the VP of Human Resources, the Human Resources Director will oversees the day to-day operations of the recruitment and onboarding processes for the YMCA of South Florida. Additionally, this individual will be responsible for leading the recruitment efforts of the organization along with Staff Recognition and Retention initiatives in support of the YMCA of South Florida organizational strategies.

Essential Job Functions:

45% - HR Operations
• Directs and provides leadership to the HR Team responsible for hiring and onboarding new hires.
• Oversees the day to day operations of the recruitment and onboarding processes, which includes supervising a team of four (two HR Representatives in Miami and two based in Ft. Lauderdale office) to ensure new hires are being hired and on boarded in an efficient manner and in compliance with YMCA, State and Local guidelines.
• Builds and maintains a strong functional team through effective coaching, training, team building and succession planning.
• Works with HR Team to ensure Volunteers are cleared and on boarded in a timely manner.
• Puts together plan to for HR Department to handle peak hiring months, to include hiring temporary staff, if necessary.
• Partners with HRIS Director to discover proactive approaches to recruiting and onboarding needs / problems using the YMCA of South Florida's HRIS platform.
• Reviews daily workflows in UKG ensuring information is accurate and corresponding job descriptions are uploaded and in compliance with YMCA procedures.

30% - Strategic Recruitment - Creating an Employee Pipe-Line for Hiring:

  • Partners with Product Line and Youth Development Leadership to identify staffing needs and works collaboratively to recruit and hire qualified candidates
    • Participates in planning meetings and prescreening candidates.
    • Prepares and sends acceptance letters to candidates.
  • Creates annual recruitment plan for roles within organization that drive and support Product Lines of the Y (Aquatics, Summer Camp and Afterschool).
    • This includes coordinating multiple hiring events to capture staff a minimum of 60-45 days in advance of programs beginning.
    • Partners with VP of Human Resources to ensure that Y opportunities posted following YMCA recruitment and compensation guidelines.
  • Ensures that the Y has an ample pool of qualified applicants by posting Y opportunities on multiple online internet sources such as Indeed, Career Source, local colleges, Y Vacancy list along with other professional organizations.
  • Networks with other YMCA's, social media contacts, local colleges and universities to ensure the YMCA is recruiting top talent.
    • Coordinates and implements college-recruiting initiatives.
    • Develop Internship program with potential colleges to build pipeline for employment opportunities.
    • Presents Y opportunities at colleges, career fairs, attend student group meetings and increase college awareness of the YMCA of South Florida
  • Put together monthly hiring and termination trends report and reviews it with VP of Human Resources.
  • Act as gatekeeper for all YMCA of South Florida job descriptions. This includes:
    • Assisting supervisors with the creation and revision of job descriptions.
    • Ensuring that a job description exist for each position within the YMCA of South Florida
    • Ensuring that approved job description are located in a central electronic folder for both Broward and Miami Dade County Family Centers.
  • Develops and tracks measurable facets of the recruiting and hiring process so that the processes are transparent and measurable; Setting continuous improvement goals.
  • Collects and reports monthly turn over data, cost-per-hire, time to hire and report this information to the VP of Human Resources.
  • Creates announcement email of new staff joining our organization.
  • Coordinate in house YUSA trainings to support staff with the completion of YUSA Leadership certifications.
10% - Staff Recognition and Retention
  • Partners with VP of Human Resources to implement and lead staff recognition and retention strategies.
  • Coordinates annual Staff Rally and Holiday events recognizing staff tenure, celebrating successes and the CEO organizational vision.
    • This includes organizing logistics of venue, running annual staff anniversary reports and order service awards in recognition of staff tenure.
5% - Succession Planning
  • Meets with VP of Human Resources and Y Leadership Team (VP's) to identify internal candidates for future openings.
    • Create development plan for the identified individuals to be able to move into these roles.
    • Meets semiannually to review development plan progress for identified individuals.
5% - Staff Development
  • Partners with VP of HR to create training plans supporting organizational staff development at all levels of organization.
5% - DEI Initiatives
  • Works with internal and external committee to identify DEI annual priorities.
  • Works with marketing team to highlight DEI work on social media.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources and / or HR Management Certificate.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Human Resources experience with a focus on HR Department Operations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent analytical and methodical skills.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products, Word and Excel.
  • Proficient with HRIS platforms, such as UKG.
  • Extremely organized and detailed oriented with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects at the same time and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to keep confidentiality.
  • Bi-lingual (English & Spanish), a plus.
