Basic requirements: Recognized as the resident expert in all matters regarding mechanical aspects of weight handling equipment. Designs the mechanical and prepares the mechanical portion of plans and specifications to provide the engineering solution to complex technical problems. Provides field investigations, including accident evaluations for accomplishment of design, maintenance, operation, inspection, testing overhaul and alterations in accordance with governing documents and engineering principles. Designs the mechanical alterations to existing weight handling equipment systems necessary to accommodate changing conditions and requirements, and reviews proposed mechanical alterations and engineering reports. Ensures adequacy of design for changes to existing weight handling equipment assigned to TRIDENT Refit Facility which includes the following: reviews design of cranes and develops recommendations for upgrading cranes and crane components to ensure state of art technology is incorporated into planned maintenance periods to prevent crane component obsolescence and to increase reliability. Provides the engineering guidance and design requirements to design agencies. Coordinates and ensures complete comprehensive design and technical review of proposed alterations and new procurement to provide compatibility of components, functional capabilities. Ensures up to date set of as-built drawings, manufacture’s manuals are on file. Starting salaries are commensurate with education and experience, plus full benefits. Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Males born after December 31, 1959 are required to be registered with the Selective Service System. All positions are subject to satisfactory completion of a security investigation, successful completion of a pre-employment physical, and/or drug test. Education requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology (ABET) accredited university is required.
