Position Summary

The Safety Ambassador II is responsible for ensuring that all individuals experience a safe and welcoming environment. The Safety Ambassador II manages disruptive persons professionally, controls access to restricted and secure-sensitive areas.;,

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job's essential duties.
  • Health care security experience a plus.
  • Effective communication skills. Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Have a current BLS (Basic Life Support) card or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Safety Care Specialist Certification within six months of employment.
  • Commitment to the provision of services for the underserved and sensitivity working with a variety of people from criminal justice-involved low-income populations, with diverse educational, lifestyle, ethnic, and cultural origins; disabled, experiencing homelessness, substance dependence, HIV (AIDS) infected, and/or physiologically impaired.
  • Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
  • Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and insurable driving record.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Provides exceptional customer service to our patients, clients, visitors, and staff.
  • Utilizes De-escalation and motivational interviewing techniques to assist with patient, clients, or visitor concerns.
  • Monitors lobby area and conducts safety inspections by walking throughout the site and surrounding grounds.
  • Observes and reports suspicious activities.
  • Escorts patients, visitors, or vendors in or out of building as necessary following physical security plans.
  • Responds to person's disturbance and emergency calls; attempt to adjudicate incidents using tact and diplomacy and contact the proper authorities for resolution.
  • Responds appropriately and safely to dangerous behavior and intervenes after a crisis to minimize the chance for recurrence by applying Evidence-Based, Trauma-Informed Care-Compatible Reinforcement and De- Escalation Techniques to understand and reduce the frequency of crisis events.
  • Calls 911 - if a person shows violence or risk of injury to any person.
  • Responds to fire, security, and emergency alarm activations, observes and reports safety hazards
  • Assists in implementing safe procedures at their site and assists in maintaining compliance with existing safety policies, procedures, Environment of Care activities, Emergency Management activities and completes daily interactions and event reports.
  • Takes proper action on-scene incidents and emergencies until relieved by a higher authority, notifying the police/fire department as needed and prepares necessary reports.
  • Ensures compliance with security, safety, and emergency response plans. Coordinates site specific fire and emergency drills.
  • Responsible for proper documentation for all safety, Environment of Care activities and Emergency Management activities.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving critical thinking skills, applying knowledge to recognize potential safety hazards and prevent injuries.
  • Use Positive Behavior Interventions & Support (PBIS) to effectively prevent, minimize, and manage behavioral challenges while promoting dignity, safety, and the possibility of change for individuals experiencing developmental, neurologic, psychiatric, and other impairments and individuals who have experienced psychological trauma.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Adheres to dress code at all times
  • Adheres to universal precautions and all infection control guidelines.
  • Performs light maintenance duties in the absence of maintenance personnel.
  • Attends in-service training and educational sessions, as assigned.
  • Understands that working environments and conditions may vary by site and shift.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client's use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
