Job Summary This paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job. The Clinic/Medical Assistant (CMA) functions as a member of the clinic patient care team and functions as both Clinic Assistant and Medical Assistant as directed by the Clinic Manager or designee. Perform all clerical duties required to complete patient Check-in/Check-out, administer and coordinate the HMO referral and service authorization process, and perform other clinic front desk activities. Responsible for clinical duties such as taking vital signs, giving injections, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms and supplies. Essential Functions The essential functions listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification. Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings. Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospitals policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct. Escorts patient to exam room; measures and records vital signs. Prepares patient for examination or treatment and performs routine screening tests. Explains treatment procedures to patients. Assists physicians with procedure set-ups, patient procedures and examinations. Administers medication by intradermal, subcutaneous, or intramuscular injections, performs skin tests, venipunctures and other technical supportive services upon the specific authorization and supervision of a licensed physician or surgeon. Administers medication following approved procedures and only after verification of medication and dosage by a licensed person. Performs routine examination and treatment procedures including: applying and removing bandages and dressings, removing sutures and casts, cleaning wounds and applying medications and dressings, performing ear lavage, preparing patients for examinations, and shaving and disinfecting treatment sites. Schedules and maintains patient physician appointments for new and returning patients, using the scheduling system. Collects patient demographic and insurance data and enters into systems as well as assigns medical record numbers. Assures appropriate verifications and authorizations are complete before patient sees provider. Collects and sends specimens to appropriate labs for testing per protocol. Reports patients concerns and symptoms, reactions, changes (appropriate to age) to licensed clinic personnel. Documents clinical information, including patient phone calls and maintains accurate and complete patient documentation according to medical profession standards. Processes requests for prescription refills according to established practice. Prepares the necessary equipment and supplies for exams. Maintains inventory of supplies in examination rooms, replenishing as required. Maintains clean and orderly exam rooms, hallways, and work areas. Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education : High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of all requirements in a recognized Medical Assistant training program or equivalent completion of the minimal training requirements as outlined in section 1366 of the Business and Professions Code. Experience : One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience. License/Certification : (BLS) Basic Life Support. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification. Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of inventory management practices. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area. Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment. Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols. Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English effectively at a level appropriate for the safe and effective performance of the job. Ability to solve problems and identify solutions. Ability to demonstrate customer service skills in interactions with all patients, families and staff, including high volume and stressful situations. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines. Pay Range Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range. Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $64,708.80 to $73,361.60.
