Job Summary

Under the immediate direction of the Senior Project Engineer, the Project Engineer II performs professional engineering work to achieve long-term affordable solutions for the client. Consistently applies professional knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of engineering concerned with facilities and systems for controlling pollution and protecting quality of resources and the environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

GENERAL

  • Works with Senior Project Engineer and/or Project Manager to develop broad knowledge and skills.
  • Participates collaboratively with the team regarding project assignments.
    Capable of leading small projects.
  • Stays current with changing technology and material
  • Be familiar with pertinent civil and environmental engineering aspects.
  • Review applicable codes and regulations.
  • Works on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Assist with direction to junior staff, technicians, and RPRs.

DESIGN

  • Prepares project funding applications and disbursement requests.
  • Communicates directly with the client during the design phase.
  • Participates in preparing of project proposals and Engineering Service
  • Requests (ESRs).
  • Assist with field work such as sampling, surveying, and taking measurements.
  • Gathers data for engineering analysis.
  • Develops solutions to complex engineering problems.
  • Perform and document design computations.
  • Prepares markups and checks completed work of drafting personnel.
  • Prepares contract drawings and specifications for review by others.
  • Presents project information to the client, regulatory officials and the public.
  • Prepares permit applications.
  • Prepares technical memorandums and reports.
  • Prepares opinions of cost.
  • Reviews reports and design phase documents for QA/QC.
  • Assists with obtaining required regulatory agency approvals.
  • Assists with bidding services such as addendums, bid tabulations, contractor references, and insurance/bid reviews.

CONSTRUCTION

  • Communicates with the Client, RPR, and Contractor during the construction phase.
  • Reviews shop drawings for approval.
  • Creates Engineer’s Supplemental Information (ESIs) and change orders and review of Request For Information (RFIs).
  • Obtain necessary information and backup from contractors and drafts change orders for approval.
  • Assist with RPR duties.
  • Performs construction site visits to observe conformance to design specifications.
  • Performs startup services for small projects and assists with startup on moderate or large projects.
  • Prepares construction meeting agendas and facilitates/assists construction progress meetings.
  • Assist in resolving construction issues.
  • Reviews QA/QC results during construction.
  • Prepares Operation & Maintenance manuals.
  • Travel required.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is not responsible for directly supervising employees.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in engineering or other related field from four-year College or University and a minimum of four years related experience
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings, GPS, and surveying equipment preferred.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be proficient with and/or be able to learn specific engineering design/modeling software in area of specialty.
  • Experience with Bluebeam preferred, not required.
  • Must have passed EIT exam and preparing for PE exam once experience is obtained.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 10 Hour OSHA Training Certificate
