) GENERAL SUMMARY: The Center for Genomic Medicine (CGM) at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is one of the largest and most dynamic hubs of genomic and precision medicine research in the world.The

Scientific Communications Manager

will support the CGM research mission and lead scientific communications and overall program management. In partnership with the CGM Administrative Director and Associate Director, the incumbent will provide support to the CGM faculty and report to the CGM Director. The Communications Manager is a mission-driven, impassioned communicator, with the vision and creative solutions needed to bring transformative scientific discoveries made within the CGM to world-wide recognition within the scientific and lay communities

. Must have a deep interest in all aspects of genomic medicine as it applies to scientific discovery and the delivery of state-of-the-art precision medicine. The role will be responsible

for developing core communications for internal and external purposes for the Center; streamline, direct, and curate external engagements and social media platforms; leading interactions with MGH and other entities for philanthropic development; driving new strategic initiatives with written and visual content; overseeing program management of all CGM activities related to our scientific community and faculty affairs. Will serve as the outward facing point of contact for the CGM to the faculty, MGH, Harvard Medical School (HMS), the Broad Institute, and the international research community. Will lead CGM communications, administrative organization, and philanthropic development. The role will also directly supervise a Project Coordinator to support the overall programmatic mission as well as the planning and organization of all CGM community activities. Must have

exceptional organization, communication, and leadership skills

to manage a team and advance major initiatives independently with high level feedback. The role will collaborate closely with the CGM Director and Associate Director, as well as scientific leadership teams across MGH departments, the Broad Institute, and external academic institutions. The incumbent will also work closely with Mass General Research Institute (MGRI) development teams on building a CGM philanthropic platform to encourage durable investment in CGM scientific priorities. The role requires discretion and judgment to organize priorities, complete tasks, and manage confidential information.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Media and Communications: Cultivate, develop, and publish scientific content for multimedia displays residing within the CGM to publicize scientific and genomic advances made by CGM research groups. Oversee all internal CGM administrative communications. Lead all interactions and communications with MGH and MGRI philanthropic development to support the scientific mission of the CGM. Re-envision and revitalize social media footprint and interaction with networking platforms. Research new web features, social media, marketing tools and trends and, as appropriate, makes recommendations for their use. Ensure all communication are consistent and meet guidelines and compliance standards. Manage the workflow of creative jobs internally to ensure timely production and delivery. Apply knowledge and skills in multi-media communications to further the CGM’s mission under the guidance of the CGM leadership team. Participate in other CGM communications initiatives as requested through these forums. Research, write and update overall web content in collaboration with CGM Associate and Administrative Director Develop systems to ensure content is up-to-date and reflects the most compelling recent discoveries and accomplishments of the CGM. Serve as primary liaison to MGH Development Office, Public Affairs Office, Information Systems Webmaster, and MGH Marketing Web Manager on necessary technical resources required to manage communications and the website. CGM Program Management: Galvanize and organize the CGM administration to increase the impact of community-building activities toward our scientific development, including CGM seminar series, the CGM scientific retreat, CGM social and publicity events. Participate in communications strategy meetings with the CGM Director and Associate Director and effectively communicate key points to internal and external stakeholders. Oversee the CGM Genomic Medicine Seminar Series, including the committee organization, liaising with external scientists and institutions, and communications of scientific content. Create editorial calendar plans that include social media, print and email materials, and the internet. Work with leadership, the CGM leadership, colleagues, and external agencies/vendors to execute communication projects and adhere to timelines and budgets. Forecast production efforts, create, and maintain timelines, and allocate internal resources to projects. Create and evaluate strong measurement, tracking and analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of planned tactics. Demonstrate motivation and leadership skills to work independent and in project teams. Possess high enthusiasm for mentorship and career development of a junior project coordinator to drive the Scientific Communications and Program Management of the CGM forward. Content Creation: Work with Marketing and Communications, Multimedia and Video, and Public Affairs departments at Mass General to develop content, including photographs, video, and interviews, that tells stories of the CGM work in a compelling and dignified framing. Partner with the CGM’s Associate Director to translate the Center’s work into meaningful, engaging, and respectful collateral for communications and development purposes. Prepare newsletters and presentations in collaboration with the CGM leadership and with the CGM project coordinator. Work with physicians, scientists, and staff within CGM and across MGH departments to keep abreast of and develop appropriate communications content. Special Events: Responsible for managing specific projects and contributing to special events as assigned in areas such as community relations, fundraising events, seminars, retreats, and social events to help promote the CGM. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal Office setting in a research building. Maybe required to attend meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Long-term supervision of a project coordinator and is responsible for coordinating, organizing, and working with groups of individuals at all levels of the organization in leading projects central to the CGM mission.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Exemplary written and oral communications skills with ability to capture stories in engaging and respectful ways. Passion for genomics and genomic medicine development and delivery. Excellent interpersonal communications skills. Able to translate between technical and non-technical colleagues to create material for a variety of audiences. Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize tasks to independently bring them to completion. Demonstrated cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to build respectful and collaborative relationships with colleagues and partners from diverse backgrounds. Ability to move quickly in a rapidly changing and innovative environment. Strong commitment to teamwork and highly collaborative environments. Knowledge of photography, videography, and web technologies. Highly motivated, independent, entrepreneurial, and capable of performing in a complex environment. Intensive attention to detail and messaging, with a strong sense of initiative and perseverance to carry through on near- and long-term initiatives. High degree of competence and independent judgement on professional approaches to administrative management in a world leading scientific and healthcare environment. Is aware of and adheres to safety measures.

EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree required. MS/PhD preferred. EXPERIENCE: Required: Minimum 3+ years of

experience in communications and/or administrative, project, or program management – preferably with a scientific or medical focus Preferred: 5+ years of experience working in the scientific and/ or healthcare community, with demonstrated strong leadership and interpersonal skills necessary for philanthropic development and working across different communication mediums.
