Job Type Full-timeDescriptionZingerman's Bakehouse is hiring a Retail Salesperson to work in our BakeshopOur retail staff assist Bakeshop guests in an exciting, viable retail business, selling some of the country's best artisan bread, cakes, pastries, soups and sandwiches.Does giving great service to customers and co-workers make your day?Would you love to sell our great breads, pastries, cakes, and savory items?Do you love working as a part of a team to deliver an exceptional customer experience?Shifts are 8 hours and are between the hours of 9am-8pmHoliday and weekend availability requiredIf you answered yes to these questions, then apply to join the Bakeshop teamCompensation: $15.50/hour, negotiable based on experience, plus tipsBenefits:Company contribution to health insurance (for full time crew after 90 days of service)401k match (after eligibility requirements are met)Free BAKE classesUp to 5 free loaves of bread each weekUp to 65% discount on baked goods from the BakehouseDiscounts at other Zingerman's businesses (for all crew out of basic orientation)Paid trainingPaid lunch breaksPaid time off$1 sandwiches and/or salad made on site for employee lunch25% reimbursement on any massageWhat are the requirements and skills needed for this job?Experience:To be considered for this position all applicants must have one of the following criteria:Previous experience working in retail sales, sales, or customer serviceAbility to clearly communicate or demonstrate sufficient ability to meet the essential job functions of this position through other personal/professional or educational experiencesAvailability:Up to 8 hour shiftsShift times may vary between 9am-8pmFull-time, 32-40 hour work weeksAvailable to work at least 1 weekend day (Saturday, Sunday)Full availability in November and December (we don't take any extra time off during these months)Physical Demands:Able to lift up 50 pounds repeatedly during an 8 hour shiftStanding, lifting , twisting, turning, reaching, and bending for duration of an 8 hour shiftRepetitive motionSome indoor/outdoor work required when delivering orders to Curbside pick-up customersEssential Job Functions:Treats customers and co-workers with courtesy and respectAble to find out what the customer wantsAssist guests with product selection and product knowledge accurately, politely, and enthusiasticallyProvide great service over the phoneAble to accurately handle purchases using our Point of Sale system, credit card machines, and cash handlingAbility to learn our product rotation, order system and schedule to accurately take and place ordersWillingness and ability to learn about our products and effectively and enthusiastically communicate information to our guestsFollow all store opening and closing proceduresMaintain clean work environmentDisposing properly of trash and recyclablesPackaging ProductStocking product and maintaining signageOperating bread slicer and using sharp knivesGrinding, scaling, and brewing coffeeAble to work well under pressure of deadlinesWork in a clean and organized fashionFollow clearly documented food safety proceduresAble to perform detail oriented work with a high level of accuracyTake direction from multiple leadersCommunicate at a high level within the department and BakehouseComplete detailed training requirements that can take up to 1.5 yearsAttend and participate in department and business huddles (meetings)Must be able to arrive to work on timeSuccess Patterns and Desired Characteristics:Passion for great food and great serviceHigh energy level/ Able to present enthusiasm at all timesExhibits desire to learnPositive attitudeGood interpersonal skillsWorks with a sense of urgency and enjoys a fast paced environmentEnjoys working on a teamGood follow-through skillsAble to read EnglishAble to sufficiently communicate in EnglishAble to follow through with verbal instructionsAble to understand organized systemsAble to deal successfully with multitasking and high stress situationsExcellent attendance and punctualityFlexibility with scheduleHas reliable transportationLikes to have fun at workWho are we?Zingerman's Bakehouse is a wholesale bakery, retail shop, and baking school for home bakers. We sell to specialty food stores, cafés and restaurants in southeastern Michigan as well as selling to Zingerman's Mail Order, who ships our baked goods everywhere in the United States. We are dedicated bakers and food lovers committed to making and selling the best breads, pastries and cakes we can imagine. We are real artisan bakers, meaning we use traditional methods and flavorful ingredient to make our food.Where are we?Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route.Who are we hiring?The Bakehouse is looking for retail staff. Shifts are around 8 hours between 7am-7pm. We are looking for team members who are available to work weekends and holidays.What's the hiring process like?You can expect to hear from us within two weeks of submitting your application either by email or phone.
