The Senior Civil / Structural Engineer should possess the skills, experience, and knowledge to support the Project Management Team. This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager at the current time and will assist other engineering and design positions as needed to effectively coordinate design and quality practices. The successful candidate is required to exhibit excellent communication abilities, technical proficiency, proactive & positive discipline leadership and a continuous pursuit of safety while in the office and performing field observations. Engineers are expected to attain & maintain their professional engineer licensure while continually seeking improvement of their skillset. Spartan demands the utmost quality and maintains a culture of inter-disciplinary support ensuring timely delivery of our projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Responsibilities

  • Support of engineering design and analysis projects for the oil & gas, mining, and renewable power industries
  • Advance application of technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts. This will include reading and understanding design drawings and technical specifications as necessary to support preparation of project deliverables, such as calculations, specifications, and engineering evaluations
  • Design and analysis of changes to existing structures as well as new building systems/design
  • Perform static equivalent and dynamic analysis of structures using hand calculations and structural software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, L-Pile, etc)
  • Develop equipment mounting, foundation design and mechanical & electrical system support calculations, designs, and specifications
  • Develop roadway designs and specifications
  • Develop specifications for geotechnical investigations, coordinate with firms contracted to perform the investigations and interpret geotechnical reports.
  • Guide direct & review geotechnical engineering surveys (develop specification, bore location plans, etc)
  • Perform reviews, assemble and prepare design reports
  • Read review and comment on drawings using redlining software (BlueBeam, Adobe DC Pro, etc)
  • Coordinate engineering and design elements with other project/discipline team members
  • Perform site walkdowns to identify design solutions and develop cost-effective problem resolution
  • Perform site inspections and field support for construction of structural designs
  • Present project submittals to clients and lead internal and external meetings
  • Develop cost estimates of newly proposed green & brownfield civil & structural modifications
  • Literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Teams at a minimum)
  • Willingness to travel as required for project development (less than 10% is normal)
  • Must be able to traverse client sites to conduct walkdowns including, but not limited to, climbing ladders and stairs
  • Must be able to work outside at client sites in all weather conditions
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship
  • Ability to pass drug and alcohol screenings, if required to attend site/field visit and is dictated by client.

Project Management

  • Provide discipline support on large scale FEED and Detail Design stage projects
  • Provide project support on small scale C/S focused FEED and Detail Design stage projects
  • Effectively assist in management of discipline budget and schedule
  • Communicate and develop project change requests to Project Management
  • Develop and maintain strong communication lines with clients and project team members (internal and external)

Business Development

  • Provide technical support to the Business Development Team, as needed.
  • Generate labor estimates, deliverable lists, technical & commercial qualifications
  • Coordinate proposed design concepts with other engineering disciplines and proposal staff
  • Constantly promotes the Company and capitalizes upon opportunities to capture work

Pulsar Corporate Support

  • Actively promotes the Spartan safety culture.
  • Actively promotes Spartan as a national company.
  • Actively support Spartans diversity & inclusion culture.
  • Input time into Ajera time keeping system in accordance with Company Standards.
  • Bi-weekly or monthly invoice to be generated and approved for payment in accordance with Pulsar Accounting standards.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Civil Engineering or similar from an ABET accredited school; MS Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is a plus
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of C/S engineering experience
  • Ability to be an individual contributor and work effectively in teams
  • Valid Professional Engineer license with completed NCEES record
  • Strong technical survey experience both in the field and the office is a plus
  • Stormwater management planning experience is a plus
  • Familiar with latest material codes for steel, concrete, cold-formed steel and other industrial materials
  • Familiar with the International Building code and building code design
  • Familiar with foundations for rotating equipment
