ExoTerra is a world leader in solar electric propulsion systems and space exploration satellites. The company develops Hall Thrusters, propulsion modules, microsatellites and launch vehicle upper stages. We have been awarded multiple propulsion module and satellite contracts.
Job Summary
We are seeking a full-time Spacecraft Mechanism Engineer with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. The hired employee will be responsible for completing design, analysis, and test tasks as they relate to solar array drives, deployment hinges and booms, separation devices, and mechanical systems. This position is open to candidates with senior level experience. Senior level candidates will be responsible for small to medium sized projects or components and will be expected to work with little supervision and solve complex problems independently.
Responsibilities and Duties
Using industry standard tools, the propulsion engineer will be expected to perform job duties under general direction to complete detailed part CAD and drawings for space mechanisms and deployment devices. Task include developing new mechanisms and integrating commercially available mechanisms into the spacecraft. Analysis of the performance of mechanism systems to ensure that company products meet requirements will also be expected. Experience designing for the space environment is required.
Document and implement necessary designs of detailed parts and assemblies to meet Design for Manufacturing and Design for Test principles.
Analyze performance data using industry standard methods and tools Ensure designs and builds meet customer requirements.
Perform testing on components and assemblies including environmental testing. Document test results and customer requirements, assist with the development of production procedures for designs.
Required Skills
CAD design and drawing release preferably SolidWorks.
Familiar with Moving Mechanical Assembly specifications
GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5) expertise and performing tolerance analysis.
Capable of writing specifications, test reports and procedures
Calculating force and torque margins.
Desired Skills
Selection, testing and integration of stepper motors.
Solar array design, fabrication, and testing
Education:
Bachelor's Degree or Higher in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
