Responsibilities Develops and issues local program policies and procedures as required which includes the formulation of institution supplements to ensure BOP policy is properly implemented at the institutional level in the areas of case/unit/and correctional systems management. Implements Bureau of Prisons (BOP) case/unit/correctional systems management policy at the institution level by signing procedural memos and ensuring training for affected staff. Serves as the liaison between the Case Managers and the Community Corrections Office regarding community resources available for inmates upon release. Serves as the subject matter expert for case management and correctional systems management programs at the institution. Conducts internal audits of the local case management and correctional systems programs in order to monitor, analyze, assess policy compliance and correct program deficiencies identified in these areas. Oversees the professional treatment case managers provide to inmates by ensuring they identify the problem, decide the appropriate action, and provide the indicated services needed. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis. Degree: that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences. OR B. Combination of education and experience - that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences, and that provided applicants with knowledge of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a 4-year degree as shown in A above. Evaluation of Education: Courses, such as sociology, correctional administration, criminal justice, government/political science, psychology, social work, counseling, and other related social or behavioral science courses may be used to satisfy the 24-semesterhour requirement. Evaluation of Experience - Experience must have been gained in (1)casework in a correctional institution or in another criminal justice setting; (2) counseling in any setting, provided it required diagnostic or treatment planning skills to achieve specific social or occupational goals; or (3) work treating persons in need of social rehabilitation. AND In addition to meeting the basic requirements all applicants must meet the following: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Knowledge of correctional treatment and correctional systems management philosophies, management techniques, investigative procedures, staff planning, security requirements, personnel management practices and equal employment opportunity practices. Experience in developing and issuing local program policies and procedures, such as institution supplements, relating to case/unit/and correctional systems management. Experience in conducting internal audits, assessing policy compliance, and correcting program deficiencies within case management and correctional systems programs. In accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3307, a maximum entry age of 36 has been established for initial appointment to a position in a Bureau of Prisons institution. The representative rate for this position is $115,796 per annum ($55.48 per hour). Special Conditions of Employment Section: Initial appointment to a supervisory/managerial position requires a one-year probationary period. The incumbent is subject to geographic relocation to meet the needs of the agency. Appointment is subject to satisfactory completion of a urinalysis, physical, and background investigation. All applicants are subject to National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and credit checks. All applicants not currently working in an institution will be required to complete a qualification inquiry regarding convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence in order to be authorized to carry a firearm. The Core Value Assessment (CVA) is an in-person assessment that must be facilitated at a Bureau of Prisons Human Resource Servicing office. On the day of the scheduled interview, a CVA will be administered. The applicant assessment must be completed within a 70 minute time period and a passing score must be obtained. Further employment consideration will not be extended if the applicant fails to complete the examination or fails to achieve a passing score. Note: The Core Value Assessment will not be administered to current BOP employees. Successful completion of the 'Introduction to Correctional Techniques,' three-week training course at Glynco, Georgia is required.
