Director of Warehouse Services

This position serves as the Director for the units within Liberty University's Warehouse Services. Units within Warehouse Services include Warehousing, Inventory, and Asset Repurpose/disposal. Providing direct oversight to a team of managers who lead distinctly unique departments, the Director is responsible for the operational structure that facilitates the units' work in a high demand environment. The Director will consistently stay informed of the ongoing changes in best practices, policies and laws within these industries, and the most up-to-date practices and technology. This position ensures all work units are functioning in a proper, safe, legal, and fiscally responsible manner. In addition to direct responsibility for the day to day operations of the departments within the unit, the Director works closely with the Exec. Director, Campus Logistics on departmental administration including budget development, policy creation and implementation, human resource issues, and strategic planning and program development.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Establishes or modifies departmental policy to ensure compliance with University
and governmental rules and regulations.

2. Periodic hands-on involvement is required in an effort to maintain a firm
understanding of all processes and actions in the departments to ensure best practices
are being performed and tailored as necessary.

3. Build and maintain strong working relationships with all staff members assuring that
morale and safety are at their best thus encouraging a positive and healthy work
environment while continually striving to advance our goals.

4. Lead, influence, and represent a positive and enthusiastic presence and foster a
diverse, fair, and equitable environment.

5. Resolve personnel problems or grievances at the second level or those that cannot be
handled by department managers.

6. Assess business and financial operations; controlling costs and forecasting current or
projected revenue and expenditures.

7. Review, interpret and create policies and procedures used by units to ensure the
safety and security of all staff on an ongoing basis.

8. Maintain a high-level working knowledge and understanding of department,
university, and state human resource and financial policies and procedures.

9. In collaboration with the Exec. Director, Campus Logistics, develop budgets and
business plans for each work unit.

10. Maintain a high level of customer service and performance, continually adjusting to
the University's ongoing changing environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is responsible for warehousing staff. These responsibilities include:
supervising the managers of Warehousing and Inventory Control and Surplus; ensuring staff
are adequately trained and follow all safety procedures to meet or exceed OSHA standards;
ensuring all staff members are treated equally and with respect; approving time off and
completing staff evaluations. Responsibilities will include providing all direct reports with
performance reviews, performance planning, training, professional development and
guidance etc.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

A bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field plus 2 years' experience in business operations and leadership, or a minimum of 5 years of professional and progressive leadership experience dealing in budgets, human resources, operations, and fiscal accountability required. Experience in one or more areas related to postal, freight, property management, stores management, warehousing or other associated/related fields within the departments is preferred.

Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Strong organizational and computer skills. Regularly required to lift 50 pounds. Must have proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required as periodic driving of university vehicles may be required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.
