Pay range: $18.50 Hourly

Shift: 3:30 to midnight or 5:30 to 9:30 pm

JOB SUMMARY:
  • The Custodian is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of the areas assigned. Custodians are accountable for the completion of assigned duties with working independently and also in collaboration with co-workers from the Facilities Team and other departments. Duties include, but are not limited to, mopping, dusting, trash removal, window washing, meeting setup, pool cleaning, snow removal, lawn care, and other general cleaning responsibilities. YWCA Custodians thrive when they enjoy cleaning and helping gym members and other program participantsrs and staff. YWCA Custodians have high standards for cleanliness and customer service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Complete all duties listed on daily assignments and maintain daily upkeep of assigned area and equipment.
  • Respond to cleaning and maintenance requests as they arise.
  • Perform janitorial duties including, but not limited to, sweeping, wet and dust mopping, dusting, waste removal, cleaning of toilets and showers, window washing, meeting set up, pool cleaning, painting, vacuuming, seasonal activities including lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning as requested or needed.
  • Clean up blood, vomit, or other bodily fluids which could contain bloodborne pathogens.
  • Operate motorized equipment used in cleaning and seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal.
  • Watch for and report all needed repairs to supervisor.
  • Ensure YWCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor and/or Manager on Duty.
RELATIONSHIPS:
  • This position reports to the Facilities Operations Engineer who reports to the Facilities Director. The incumbent will interact with Health and Wellness Team, Managers on Duty, Facilities Team, Contractors, and Members.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Required
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing. This includes use of email, handwritten notes, walkie talkies, and phone calls and text messages.
  • Must be able and willing to develop:
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment;
  • Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of the equipment used for cleaning;
  • Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use;
  • Willingness to learn and share new and better methods of cleaning;
Preferred
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous custodial experience
WORK CONDITIONS:
  • Perform essential housekeeping to facility of equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi-reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
  • Ability to perform tasks outdoor in different climates;
  • Work with cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, paint, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  • Work in conditions that can create dirt and dust.
  • Safely operate cleaning equipment that may include, but not be limited to the following: auto scrubber, buffer, snow blower, sweeper, tractor, box/trash compactor, aerial lift, pressure washer, hand and power tools.
  • Move or lift materials and tools up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency/on-call situations.
  • Erect and stand on scaffolding, ladders, and platforms.
  • Work at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of times.
  • Ability to work on a computer.

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Required
    • 1 year employment experience
    • Ability to work independently.
    • High school diploma or General Education Degree.
    • CPR/First Aid/AED certified. (Must complete within 90 days of hire)
  • Preferred
    • Custodial experience
    • Pool care and water treatment experience.
    • Customer service experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently life and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Required to walk regularly. Occasionally required to sit, stand, use hands, climb ladders; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high places.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particle, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat and risk of electric shock.
  • Noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
  • Travel to other locations is required 0% of the time.
  • Work will be completed independently 85% of the time.
