**Senior Design Engineer (Refractory)**
**Allied Mineral Products** is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide. We are seeking a **Senior** **Design Engineer (Refractory)** in our Columbus, Ohio location. This position will provide engineering support for the Allied Sales organization; both domestic and international. This will include 3D/2D CAD Design to facilitate the preparation of quotations and proposals using design analysis, methodology assessment, engineering calculations, thermal analysis, drawings, bills of materials, and technical reports.
**Key Duties:**
+ Utilize AutoDesk Inventor CAD package to complete designs of Refractory Furnace Linings or Pre-cast Refractory Shapes.
+ Use the resulting design to; calculate volume estimates to determine material requirements (BOM), create 2D drawings for both internal and customers needs, perform thermal analysis and sometimes other engineering related documents, like FEA.
+ Manage and prioritize the multiple allocated projects to meet or exceed expectation, including deadlines, and effectively communicate with sales, Application Engineering and contractors.
+ Train and mentor less experience colleagues on any aspect of Refractory design, process or application.
+ Support Production in the Pre-Cast Shapes department, for example, First Article Inspection (FAI) or DFM adjustments to simplify tooling or manufacturing.
+ Maintain personal knowledge and proficiency in application of current departmental and industry design procedures and software applications.
+ Prepare and occasionally present documents for Engineering presentations for inside seminars, meetings, Sales Conferences and for outside presentation of Engineering proposals.
+ Participate in procurement and coordination of sub-contractors to provide fabrication services, demolition services, labor and equipment for installation and dry out / heat up services.
+ Attend field sales calls, meetings, technical presentations, and installations as required to assist the Sales Department and to promote Design, Allied and Allied products. (Some out of town and out of state overnight.)
+ Discuss and support Sales, customers, OEM or any other personnel with anything regarding Refractory designs.
**Qualifications:**
+ A Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering (mechanical, civil, or aerospace) or other similar technical field is preferred.
+ 5+ years of related Engineering experience.
+ Experience in the Refractory Industry and product knowledge is highly preferred.
+ Excellent CAD skills, including proficiency with 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting.
+ Strong technical expertise in product design, engineering principles, and sales engineering processes.
+ Must have excellent oral and verbal communications, interpersonal, and mentorship skills.
+ Results oriented, good planner and organized.
+ Willingness to travel as needed (approximately 4-6 times per year; up to 7 days each, potentially a very occasionally trip overseas).
+ Experience with high temperature industrial processing equipment.
+ Knowledge of heat transfer principles and experience with heat flow analysis software is a benefit.
