The Position: CBE is hiring Senior Voter Outreach Leads, who will be based in either California’s East Bay Area or Los Angeles, California. The Senior Voter Outreach Leads are inspirational leaders with high energy who believe in the power of people to activate voters and community on the issues of neighborhood oil drilling, corporate and polluter accountability, housing justice, and building a statewide membership base of progressive youth and communities of color. The person(s) in this role should be experienced, strongly motivated, disciplined with time and material management, and highly skilled in engaging Black, African-American, Indigenous, Latine, youth and voters of color to get involved and take action. This is an in-person position with expectation for in-person phonebanks, canvassing, virtual and in-person campaign outreach events from either the CBE offices in Richmond, CA, Oakland, CA, or those in Los Angeles, CA. This position supervises Voter Outreach Organizers and manages volunteers. It reports to CBE’s Voter Outreach Coordinator and/or Civic Engagement Director, will work in collaboration with other Leads, is a member of CBE’s Civic Engagement Department, and will regularly attend alliance, coalition, and partner meetings. Key Responsibilities and Requirements: Leadership, Supervision and Management: Supervise and co-leads team of five to ten Voter Outreach Organizers, and volunteers in phone banks, canvassing, volunteer recruitment, campaign outreach events, and information dissemination. Set daily agendas and co-facilitate trainings and debriefs to help leads, organizers, and volunteers in reaching their daily individual and collective team goals. Model engagement in canvassing, phonebanking, campaign outreach events, and in-person/ virtual meeting spaces. Ensure goals, deadlines, and performance standards are met. Conduct performance and quality control checks to identify areas of performance improvement for voter outreach team under supervision and oversight. Ensure accurate data entry, approve timesheets, and manage schedule for make-up shifts. Identify and communicate office/work supplies and meetings needs of outreach team. This position requires ongoing in-person canvassing, phonebanking, and outreach events to coach, assist, and conduct performance checks.

Political Education and Leadership Development: Participate in trainings and ongoing weekly meetings to become familiar with environmental justice, climate justice, housing justice, corporate accountability, and fiscal revenue generation. Invest in organizers’ growth and leadership development throughout the program.

Direct Voter Contact: Manage daily phonebank and canvass operations, including: coordinating setup and clean-up for phonebank and canvassing shifts; coaching and supporting team lead and organizers; flagging support for technology and internet issues immediately; and evaluating daily shifts. Coach and train organizers to engage a specific subset of voters through phonebanking and canvassing efforts. Maintain professional and persuasive conversations with voters and peers. Attend weekly meetings to provide progress reports on goals, outreach efforts, troubleshoot issues, discuss community response to survey, and receive campaign updates.

Voter and Community Outreach: Support identification of and implement in-person and virtual outreach opportunities, efforts, and coalition activities. Maintain and develop relationships with allied organizations, community groups, agencies and individuals to support outreach efforts. Coordinate schedules for voter outreach team to engage in outreach efforts. Ensure data collection is accurately entered into database.

Volunteer Recruitment: Coordinate, set-up, and manage outreach tools (including online tools, presentations, email and text message scripts) for volunteer recruitment. Recruit volunteers from within own networks, voter and community outreach, and existing organizational membership and contacts. Facilitate training and coaching of volunteers. Ensure the entire team assists with volunteer recruitment.

Spokespersonship: Participate in trainings and meetings to learn how to tell your personal story on the phones, at the doors, and to the media to help build a narrative that centers the role of young people and communities of color in our campaign.

Material and content creation: Participate in trainings and meetings to brainstorm and develop digital content and print material that are culturally relevant and affirming to engage young people and communities of color so they are driven to take action. Prepare presentations and curriculum for training outreach team and support the development of outreach print materials.

In addition to the above, racial equity and language justice are key areas supported by the Senior Voter Outreach Lead. CBE has made a commitment to addressing anti-blackness and white supremacy culture within our organization, and the Senior Voter Outreach Lead will participate in CBE’s internal work to meet equity goals and will be a bridge to our members’ participation. Qualifications and Expectations: Understanding of environmental justice, climate justice, and a commitment to long-term social change through outreach and organizing.

Demonstrated experience in community or union organizing, canvassing and phonebanking for electoral campaigns, including the use of PDI, CallEvo, CallHub, Thru Text, or other voter contact tools and CRM.

Strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills including public speaking and presentation delivery.

Experience in agenda setting, facilitating trainings and/or meetings.

Ability to navigate on the internet and possession of basic computer skills.

Strong interpersonal skills, community-oriented, and ability to engage people from different social, cultural, and professional backgrounds.

Strong work ethic, punctual, and self-motivated to lead and build relationships with local, regional, and statewide alliances and partners.

Strong time-management skills.

Ability to work well individually and build positive team environments.

Ability to work in high-paced, goal-oriented, and high-pressure environments.

Bilingual in English and Spanish or other languages (preferred but not required)

Access to reliable form of transportation.

Compensation and Timeframe: This is a temporary, part-time (up to 30 hours a week) position, with an hourly rate of $27.00. This position has an expected start date of June 10, 2024 and will end on December 6, 2024. Evenings and weekends expected. Weekly work schedule will be coordinated with your supervisor. Due to the temporary nature of this work, we are unable to offer most benefits; however, the position does include a therapy/mental wellness benefit as well as a limited amount of paid sick leave.
