Position Purpose/Summary: As a Firewall Administrator I, you will perform the day-to-day system administration of our security hardware and software, including firewalls and intrusion detection systems.You will assist with the creation and management of firewall rules and policies while adhering to change management procedures. You will support both site-to-site and remote access VPNs.

Education & Experience:

  • An associate degree required with 1-3 years of experience. Bachelor's degree preferred. 3- 5 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Specialized knowledge Information Technology expected.
  • General knowledge of network administration, computer networking concepts and protocols, best practices, cybersecurity principles, threats and vulnerabilities, and specific operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses.
  • Troubleshooting skills expected.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Proficient with standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, PCs, etc.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
  • Network security certifications, as administered by Cisco or Palo Alto.
  • Experience managing NGFWs, including ACLs, security policies, web filtering and threat prevention.
  • VPN security, IDS/IPS tools and applications, DLP security solutions, risk management processes, laws, regulations, and policies related to cybersecurity.
Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain rules and policies.
  • Install software upgrades and security patches.
  • Perform installations, configurations, maintenance, backups, and restorations.
  • Monitor connections and perform troubleshooting.
  • Proactively monitor firewall connections and device health.
  • Respond to outages and address vulnerabilities.
  • Create and maintain network diagrams.
  • Create and maintain internal documentation / knowledgebase.
  • Provides departmental back-up coverage as needed.
  • Respond effectively to changing ideas, responsibilities, expectations, trends, strategies, and other processes.

Compensation Range: $23/hr. - $30/hr. *Hiring rates may be dependent on a number of factors, including years of directly related work experience, education, geographic location or special skills*
