SUMMARY

Under the general supervision and direction of the Controller, this position performs professional accounting duties relating to general ledger account maintenance, accounts receivable, auditing, as well as the alternate for payroll and accounts payable.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

None.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Performs entry-level professional accounting duties.
  • Performs account and other financial reconciliations.
  • Prepares and enters journal entries.
  • Prepares regular and special financial reports.
  • Assists with internal control measures.
  • Assists in the annual audit and preparation of the financial reports.
  • Acts as the designated backup to payroll and accounts payable.
  • General office support activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting.

Accountant I

Experience: One year of accounting or related training/experience. Government experience is preferred.

Certifications/Licenses:
  • Valid Utah Driver's License
Accountant II

Experience: Four years of accounting of responsible accounting experience. Government experience is preferred.

Certifications/Licenses:
  • Valid Utah Driver's License
  • CPFO or CGFM certification preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:
  • Accounting theory, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and governmental accounting.
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft Office programs as well as other computer applications.
  • Payroll processes and practices.
  • Office management principles, practices, and equipment.
Skill with:
  • Collecting, organizing, and analyzing complex information and convert into clear, concise reports to carry out statistical function.
  • Intermediate level of computer proficiency.
Ability to:
  • Learn multiple financial software tools.
  • Gain a comprehensive knowledge of City ordinances, state law, debt requirements, and other guidance related to government finance and accounting.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, public officials, and the public.
  • Maintain confidentiality of privileged or sensitive information.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work in a standard office environment which includes reaching, bending, sitting, standing, talking, hearing, and listening.
