Scope:
  • Provide compassionate, inclusive spiritual care to residents, families, and staff. Respecting diverse beliefs while ensuring individual spiritual needs are met.
  • Foster a sense of community and connection through worship services, counseling, small group discussions, and special programs.
  • Actively listen and communicate effectively, tailoring interactions to various audiences and situations with emotional intelligence.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to foster a holistic approach to spiritual well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Spiritual Care & Support: Provide individualized spiritual care to residents, families, and staff. Facilitate grief, loss, and transitional support, ensuring sensitivity to residents' diverse spiritual expressions. Connect residents and families with external spiritual care resources and their faith communities as needed.
  • Chaplaincy Programming & Worship Services: Organize and lead regular chapel services, Bible studies, and other spiritual programs. Plan and officiate memorial services and funerals, coordinating all aspects including music, bulletins, and communication. Oversee and mentor volunteers involved in spiritual care programs, such as the Associate Chaplains Program.
  • End-of-Life & Crisis Care: Provide compassionate end-of-life care through programs like Passages, offering support to residents, families, and staff. Respond to community crises with appropriate spiritual care and guidance.
  • Community Building & Collaboration: Foster a sense of connection and belonging within the community through presence and participation in gatherings. Work collaboratively across departments and with community partners (churches, synagogues, faith groups) to enhance spiritual care services.
  • Leadership & Team Integration: Serve as a spiritual resource for team members by attending meetings, fostering communication, and supporting organizational goals. Collaborate with the Spiritual Care Team, including chaplains, musicians, and volunteers, to coordinate services and referrals.
  • Music Ministry (if applicable): Lead worship with piano, organ, or other instruments, integrating traditional and contemporary music. Maintain high musical standards through regular rehearsal and familiarity with music theory.
  • Compliance & Policies: Adhere to organizational policies, ensuring quality of life, person-centered care, and trauma-informed practices.

Education and Experience Required:
  • Undergraduate degree required; Master of Divinity, Theology, or equivalent preferred.
  • Ecclesiastical endorsement required
  • Completion of one or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of active ministry experience in a church or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Effective counseling, listening, and emotional support skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities with sensitivity to diverse resident concerns.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a pluralistic setting, respecting diverse beliefs and traditions.
  • Must complete and pass a state required background study.
  • Able to physically perform the duties required by the position.
  • Required to have the ability to read, write and speak English well enough to communicate with staff, residents and visitors.
