Professional Nurse Development Specialists are responsible for the following:

  • Provides professional nursing care based on nursing standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Serves as a role model and mentor for students and other staff.
  • Maintains accountability for own practice and aspects of care delegated to others.
Jefferson Health is searching for a registered nurse Professional Development Specialist with advanced skills who demonstrates a high degree of professional competence in a specialized nursing field.

Primary Function:

Under the supervision of Nursing Director of Professional Services, the Nurse Professional Development (NPD) member will cover Behavioral Health areas throughout the hospital and develop, provide, and evaluate hospital-based staff performance education within the assigned Patient Care Service areas. The NPD staff member will also provide BH training and onboard Clinical Ancillary staff. The NPD staff member overviews education needs and performance requirements to develop programs that foster career growth and outstanding job performance for the clinical staff that contributes to department and units covered goal achievement.

Collaboration with other NPD staff on nursing initiatives required and active participation in Professional Nursing Shared Governance as a mentor are also parts of the role. Additional parts of this role involve being a change agent, learning facilitator, leader, champion for inquiry, advocate for NPD practice, and partner for practice transitions in the following areas:

  • Onboarding/Orientation
Qualifications

Experience: Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience required. Clinical background in Behavioral Health acute care preferred. Demonstrated experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating teaching/learning experiences. Experience in course development and delivery.

Education & Training: Masters of Science in Nursing required, or to be completed within 2 years of hire.

License, Certification & Registration: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Current certification of BLS through American Heart Association required.

Other Requirements: Demonstrates ability to communicate appropriately and effectively. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in clinical nursing practice.

Conditions of Employment
