The Water Finance Exchange, Inc. (WFX) was founded with a primary objective of significantly increasing funding partnerships in small to midsize utilities disadvantaged by water funding gaps. A 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, WFX is comprised of a team of water and finance professionals devoted to assisting communities across the U.S. break the logjam of water investment by identifying and tailoring solutions that are suited for the communities we serve.
WFX is in a unique position to assist in addressing the funding shortage of water infrastructure projects for thousands of American communities. We achieve this through partnerships with federal and state stakeholders, communities, and philanthropy, support from the financial sector; reducing the burden of government in endeavoring to close that gap alone.
WFX believes that it can support the efforts of smaller communities to access funding by assembling the best expertise, build trusted relationships with communities, complete projects, and learn and disseminate information about recurring issues and solutions that allow for increased funding of similarly situated communities and regional initiatives that would otherwise be unavailable.
Launched in 2020, WFX has been creating a vast pipeline of community water infrastructure project opportunities. WFX is excited about the opportunities to expand and scale its efforts to better meet the needs of communities around the country. To do so, WFX is seeking to add a full-time Lead Financial Analyst to its core team.
Job Summary

WFX is seeking a Lead Financial Analyst to assist in providing high-quality financial advisory services within the water infrastructure sector. The new hire will work closely with the WFX leadership to build its project pipeline, analyze and conduct due diligence on prospective deals within target communities.
This position is responsible for analyzing routine to complex financial and economic information and issues pertaining to water utilities. In addition, the position will focus on project development, financial feasibility analysis, risk management assistance, restructuring, portfolio management, and programmatic assistance.
The work performed by this position involves analyzing complex financial information that requires critical thinking and independent judgment. Projects may require working both independently or collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
The ideal candidate will have recently completed a BA or BS degree and should be self-determined, motivated, and enthusiastic about learning and advancing his/her career. We are a small team; therefore, the Lead Financial Analyst should be capable of taking on a high degree of responsibility.
Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include the following:
Conduct financial due diligence and research various municipal, private, and corporate entities in the water sector.
Assist in audit/regulatory compliance reviews, including reviewing the terms of loan agreements, verifying that deal targets submit paperwork in a timely manner.
Assist with financial modeling by entering data, reviewing models, calculating financial ratios, and building sensitivity scenarios.
Write credit memos, independent financial assessment reports, PowerPoint decks and other written deliverables.
Carry out research tasks in support of client deliverables including market and industry assessments.
Provide actionable insights and vision for the creation of new reporting and metrics as relevant and as needed.
Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of screening processes and decision-making procedures and tools.
Ad hoc reports, as necessary
Assist staff with administrative or organizational tasks.
Must have an undergraduate (bachelors) degree, preferably in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
3-5 years of experience as a financial analyst.
Proficiency in MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong writing and editing skills, including comfort working with long technical reports.
Attention to detail and an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

Intellectual flexibility and adaptability for working a wide range of industries and assignments.
Preferred

Graduate degree (MA, MS, and/or MBA) in Economics or Finance.
At least 1-2 years of experience in the water supply and sanitation sector.
Able to build financial models (financial planning and simulation models).
Knowledge of the State Revolving Fund and Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA).
Remuneration

This is a full-time position based at our office in Washington, DC or remote. Salary commensurate with experience. WFX offers a competitive benefits package that includes vacation and sick leave, and reimbursement for a comprehensive health plan.
