Description

The material handler is responsible, for the handling and monitoring of quality finished product and packaging materials. Responsibilities also include proper handling of scrap that results from converting and other associated processes.

The material handler manually packs product from the forming machines. The material handler lifts and pulls product from the machine, visually inspects the product, places the product in a bag, secures a tie to the bag, and places the bagged product in a box. The material handler also sorts and lifts boxes of product, pushes boxes though the taper, carries boxes of product, and stacks boxes of product onto pallets. The material handler uses a manual pallet jack to move and position empty/full pallets of product. The material handler uses RF scanner, creates, and attaches load tags, and may hand wrap loads/stretch wrap. Material handlers may use the lift assist device to stack boxes onto pallets and operate a forklift.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
o Handle and move (e.g., pack, feed, palletize) process specific
material/product consistent with the assigned position, the machine speed,
and customer and quality specifications.
o Ensure that all materials associated with the converting process and
consistent with the assigned position are available in the correct quantities
and in the correct location for order being run. (e.g., RSCs, dividers, bags,
film, blanks, etc.)
o Perform process and product specific quality inspections, complete Quality
Control documentation, and communicate any quality issues to the
Operator and Supervisor.
o Record data on specified forms and complete required documentation.
o Use RF scanner for process specific requirements to scan transactions to the Warehouse Management and to generate load tags.
o Prepare, unwrap, wrap loads using hand wrapper/ stretch wrapper/banding
equipment following the wrapping/banding requirements for the process
specific product/material and for assigned position.

Use sit down forklift, clamp truck (process specific), and manual/ electric
pallet jack consistent with assigned position to stage
pallets/product/materials in designated area. (Training available)
o Dispose of process specific waste material following all safety requirements
and waste disposal procedures for assigned position.
o Assist the machine operator and perform equipment and process specific
tasks.
o Remove jams at machine position and restart machine as required by
position.
o Communicate any machine or product issues to the Operator or Supervisor.
o Perform general housekeeping in the work area and assist others as
required during machine down time.
o Comply with all company policies and procedures including GMP, PPE,
HACCP, LOTO, and JSA regulations.
o Responsible for ensuring, where applicable, the product safety, quality,
regulatory compliance, and legality of all products produced and sold

Required Skills and Qualifications:
o High school diploma, or previous work-related skill, knowledge, or
experience is usually needed.
o Equivalent experience or experience multi-tasking in a fast-paced work
environment
o Ability to use RF scanner for WMS transactions as required for position.
o Ability to operate a manual pallet jack and/or an electric pallet jack as
required for position.
o Ability to use material handling devices such as a hoist and a pneumatic lift
assist handling device as required for position.
o Must be able to read, understand and comprehend documents such as
safety rules, internal quality procedures, and machine operating
procedures.
o Excellent communication skills and must have the ability to communicate
production issues to supervisors and others in work area.
o Basic mathematics (i.e., counting).
