Position Status: Exempt: Full- time status; requires travel to all HOA locations and

affiliated hospitals

Supervision Exercised: Manager for Advanced Practice Providers: nurse practitioners,

physician assistants, social workers, and dieticians

General Statement of Duties:

This role is for an individual who is interested in leadership and enjoys patient care in a busy oncology practice. This position requires 40 hours per week, with 25% of time as clinician and 75% of time per week devoted to administrative responsibilities. They will collaboratively work with CEO in overseeing daily operations related to APP practice, all aspects of patient care, role responsibilities and global APP staffing. Prepare monthly work schedule including approval of PTO and EDU and ensuring adequate coverage. Collaborating with the CEO, the APP manager will conduct interviews in new hire interviews and selection, weekly schedules and assignments, goal setting, new hire APP orientation planning and performance evaluations. In addition, they will be responsible to provide the APP with educational opportunities, yearly competencies, and assist in developing individual AP performance goals. This individual will participate in weekly clinical leadership meetings and participate on committees within HOA.

Examples of Duties:

AP Hiring & Orientation

•The process of interviewing AP staff

•Scheduling AP candidate shadow experience

•Integral in new AP hire decisions

•Mentor and solicit qualified AP to orient new staff

•Update orientation check list for new AP hires

•Create orientation calendar with mentors and various experiences

•Meet with new hires and mentor on a regular basis & offer feedback where needed

•Mentor new AP and participate in their orientation process as needed

•Ensure new AP have completed prerequisite training to write chemo orders and have second AP cosigner per policy

•Service recovery and problem solving patient and process issues disrupting patient satisfaction

Day to Day

•Work on weekly APP schedules with assistant to physicians and CCO.

•Attending meetings representing the APP team (examples: EMR, Quality committee, OMH, QOPI, Clinical leadership meetings, genetic/genomic testing)

•Help with Quality initiatives that affect the clinical team

•Take calls for unexpected absences and adjust APP global scheduling

•Realign staffing when unanticipated absences occur

•Other duties as assigned

Performance

•Conduct performance evaluations/ review with CEO

•Develop feedback and counseling of AP who had performance or behavior issue.

•Assist AP employees in setting performance goals for themselves

•Participate in goal setting for the group

•Determine and develop appropriate competencies & ensure they are completed

•Update and keep clinical ladder and role stipends relevant and equitable.

•Serve as liaison between Advanced Practice team and all other departments while promoting positive work relationships and team dynamics

•Annually assess roles within the APP team to support role efficiency, strategic plan and a fiscally responsible FTE budget

•Communicate with CCO and nursing leader(s) regularly ensuring smooth clinical process for teams and recognition of opportunities for areas of improvement

•Ensure equal annual educational opportunities within the APP team education budget

•Work in collaboration with EMR team to ensure adequate training and assessment of EMR skills. In addition, provide hands on EMR training to team as needed

•Identifies and resolves operational problems-develops and implements alternative methods for work improvement

•Exercises appropriate authority and responsibility toward personnel with respect to all federal and state regulations, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, salary increases, terminations and other related terms and conditions of employment

Quality & Education

•Serve as a point person along with CEO/CCO to discuss process and quality in regard to AP team (OMH, QOPI, MIPS, Pertinent quality initiatives, and process improvement)

•Participate in the development of new processes

•Provide 1:1 education with NP/PA staff re new process, documentation standard, EMR change

•Determine AP educational needs and opportunities that will be helpful to the team

•Develop & provide educational experiences based on team or organizational need in conjunction with CCO/CEO

•Review near miss events and/or errors. Participate in Root Cause Analysis as requested. Help with problem solving on how to prevent future occurrence

•Prioritize and organize agenda items and conduct advanced practice meetings to include any pertinent case reviews, staff presentations of conference participation, and disseminate organizational policies. Encourage and lead discussion of issues related to advanced practice group

Requirements

Requirements :

Graduate of NP/PA program/current NYS licensure

MS degree in related field/AOCNP certification preferred

2 years NP/PA oncology experience

Good time management skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Helpful to have previous supervisory experience, but not required
