POSITION TITLE: Manager, Accounting ROLE SCOPE: The Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the Accounting Department. This is a full-time, hands-on, execution-oriented role with key responsibilities including month-end close, reporting, budgeting/forecasting, payroll, compliance, and training and development. The role reports to the Chief Financial Officer and oversees an accounting team. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manages the day-to-day transactional operations of the Accounting Department, including general ledger, billing/accounts receivable, accounts payable, expense reports and collections. Prepares monthly billing for assigned accounts. Oversees the month-end close process within established deadlines, ensuring accuracy of all journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations. Compiles month-end financial reporting package for internal distribution. Prepares and processes bi-weekly payroll and ensures Company is compliant with all federal and state payroll reporting. Assists CFO with the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecast updates; maintains all updates in accounting software system. Works with CFO to improve and maintain accounting policies and procedures to enhance general ledger operations, internal controls and compliance requirements. Provides training to Stewart employees on accounting policies and processes. Prepares all required firm business licensing; provides oversight and support to registered agent for all state annual reporting filings. Serves as primary point of contact for external tax and audit/review engagements. Manages a team of accounting professionals by providing guidance, direction, and support as needed. Serves as a mentor and role model, supporting team members’ professional growth and development. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains employee information and assigns roles and security permissions in accounting software system. Serves as backup support for all core accounting processes. Assists CFO with other duties, tasks, and projects as assigned. Is actively engaged in professional development activities. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field 5+ years of progressive experience in exempt-level accounting position(s) with responsibility for a variety of core functions including general ledger, payroll, billing, and accounts payable Team leadership experience Professional maturity with demonstrated experience handling sensitive and confidential information Experience successfully working in a remote or hybrid environment PREFERENCES: CPA, MBA or Master’s Degree in Accounting Deltek Vision, and/or Ceridian Dayforce experience Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: Knowledge Up to date knowledge of MS office, with emphasis on MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams Intermediate or greater level of Excel skills, including ability to create pivot tables and complex formulas Ability to graphically represent data using various tools/software Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and required internal controls for key accounting processes Skills Interpersonal – Must be able to interact with people of varied backgrounds, cultures, and circumstances; professional and friendly demeanor; ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding. When onsite, employee will primarily work in a professional, open environment with a dedicated workspace positioned in a lower-traffic area of the office. When not onsite, employee will be expected to primarily work from a private, dedicated space with minimal distractions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to sit at a desk and work at a computer for an extended period of time. May occasionally need to exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
