Internal: Branch Directors, Group Leaders, Project Managers, Estimators, Engineering, Logistics, VDC, Pre-fabrication, Service Groups

External: General Contractors, Vendors, Specialty Contractors, and Owners

Position Summary:

The Estimator will be responsible for preparing timely and accurate bid estimates. The Estimator will develop an understanding of business components and implications specific to estimating and cost control. The Estimator may also support Senior Estimators in the estimate preparation process for more complex and/or larger projects. Utilizes the methodology, tools and approaches our client Way estimating process.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate and complete preparation of assigned estimates
  • Review of bid documents for complete understanding of work scope
  • Visit job sites for obtaining information to accurately define the scope of work
  • Schedule review meetings with internal resources as required to insure that estimates are completed on time
  • Prepare and transmit requests for quotation to vendors and specialty contractors
  • Prepare RFIs for review with Sr. Estimator or Estimating Manager before submission to responsible parties
  • Prepare clarification and assumption documents
  • Prepare scope letters and complete RFP documents for final review with Sr. Estimator or Estimating Manager
  • Compile and organize vendor quotations for final review with Sr. Estimator or Estimating Manager
  • Complete branch take-off visually for review with Sr. Estimator or Estimating Manager
  • Assist with Accubid entry of quantified take-offs
  • Participate in coordinating anticipated general conditions and other miscellaneous costs with Sr. Estimator, Estimating Manager and Operations Manager
  • Perform accurate and detailed quantity take-offs on assigned projects
  • Coordinate and/or assemble final bid price pricing to be ready for review 24hrs. prior to bid time
  • Prepare and transmit proposal letter after review and approval by Sr. Estimator and perform follow-up with associated party
  • Attend pre-bid and post-bid meetings as required
  • Utilize our clients Way as the established estimating processes
  • Responsible for the Estimate Review process for assigned estimates.
  • Responsible to complete the Estimate Review Workbook in its entirety.
  • Responsible for the Estimate Turnover meeting for awards projects.
  • Assist with maintaining Opportunity Tracker and Estimating Calendar
  • Assist with maintenance of Pipeline vendor quote management system
  • Track data (i.e. sq. ft. $$s, Hours etc.)
  • Ensures the flow of project information is maintained and documented
  • Review and advise Operations of constructability issues
  • Participate in the transfer of information on successful projects to Operations
  • Performs other related tasks as required and assigned.

Competencies: Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Three or more years of relevant electrical estimating experience quoting projects over $1M
  • Proficient in Accubid
  • Familiar with reading and understanding drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of building construction methods, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices
  • Ability to complete a take-off from engineered electrical drawings
  • Shows a passion for continuous learning and development
  • Displays an ability to collaborate and communicate with others to gather information for project estimates
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Proven positive and professional attitude with strong customer service skills
  • Capable to adapting skills and methodologies based on constructive feedback from others; learns and grows from feedback
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to manage self and meet deadlines
  • Possesses strong organizational skills

Physical Requirements:

Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hard hat, safety boots, gloves, harness, respirators.

Work Environment:

Typical office environment with home office/remote work. Occasional exposure to job site hazards such as noise, fumes, dust/dirt, trip hazards, uneven ground, and temperature extremes.

Travel Required:

Occasional regional travel to jobsites as required.
