Reporting to the RT Director, this position is responsible in providing RT staff supervision (especially in NICU and L&D). This person will assist the Director in overseeing Respiratory Care Services performed in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Serves as a resource for the staff on complex patient care or equipment problems. Assists with establishing department standards, policies, procedures, and continuous quality improvements. Coordinates RT staffing in the NICU and Labor and Delivery Departments. Plans and implements individualized orientation, education, in-services and training programs for the entire RT department existing staff (i.e. Adults, NICU and Sub-acute units), and in-services and training programs for new employees and students. Plans and implements education, training and in-services to other clinical departments (esp. nursing units). Observes and monitors patient care, defines education related problems and assist with implantation of programs and processes to meet those educational needs. Participates and monitors quality performance improvement program in the RT department. Assists in providing clinical supervision to meet functionality and requirement of an Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) Laboratory. Performs progressive discipline in a consistent and timely manner. Completes staff performance evaluations in a timely manner. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner. Applicable for the populations checked: Infant (x ) Pediatric (x) Adult ( x ) Geriatric ( x ) Demonstrate knowledge and technical dexterity in performing neonatal and adult procedures/tests. Performs effectively in emergency situations following guidelines and department standards. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment including quality control monitoring for NICU. Maintains accurate reports, records, statistics, and other educational

documentation/certificates. Provides staffing support in time of need to maintain adequate coverage of assigned shift, especially in NICU. Troubleshoots and corrects basic equipment malfunctions. Demonstrates sensitivity to patient’s comfort and privacy. Adapts approaches based on recognized cultural and religious diversity. Cooperates with other personnel in a positive manner to achieve departmental and interdepartmental objectives and maintains good employee relations. Demonstrates responsibility for cost containment, conservation of supplies and equipment, as well as other organizational resources. Attends staff meetings and actively participates, reads and returns all staff meeting minutes. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQl) activities. Demonstrates an understanding of the procedures for reporting and responding to facility emergencies such as fire, and disruption in utilities and hazardous materials spills. Demonstrates knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations, and

appropriate/special

applications. Demonstrates the ability to access and use computer systems. Communicates with physicians, administrative staff, co-workers, and patients/families in a respectful and caring manner. Demonstrates a positive professional image; performs responsibilities in a professional manner; demonstrates flexibility in the provision of patient care/service; utilizes a collaborative approach with co-workers. Demonstrates flexibility in the work setting with changing assignments, varying staffing levels and patient care environments, and completes work on time. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education Graduate from an AMA, CoARC or JRCRTE approved Respiratory Therapy program Preferred Education Bachelor Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Healthcare Management or equivalent Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications Five (5) years clinical experience in all phases of acute Respiratory Care with some experience in the age-specific category of respiratory care to infants, pediatrics, and adults. Two (2) years NICU experience. At least one-year progressive management or supervisory experience. Must possess excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Must be able to work in a union environment. Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications N/A Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation Current and valid RCP license from the Respiratory Care Board of California Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) American Heart Association BLS Card American Heart Association ACLS Card American Heart Association PALS Card American Heart Association NRP Card Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (or must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
