National Institutes of Health - Biomedical Engineer (Program Director) Location: Montgomery County, Maryland Summary: The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering is seeking two Biomedical Engineers. The Division of Applied Science & Technology (DAST) is seeking a Program Director for Image-Guided Interventions. The Division of Health Informatics Technologies (DHIT) is seeking a Program Director with experience in Point-of-Care technologies and Digital health. Responsibilities: Perform professional engineering and scientific program management to enrich practices, techniques, and knowledge in the medical and biological sciences. Manage biomedical engineering research, including the research and development of new and revised medical devices and new uses of existing medical devices. Provide technical leadership and guidance in a major subject matter area. Identify and formulate program needs to achieve an integrated and responsive effort in the assigned area. Conduct scientific and administrative reviews and analyses of applications/proposals and advise on the selection of consultants for scientific evaluation. Organize and conduct workshops, conferences, symposia, or similar activities to foster communication among investigators. Qualifications: To qualify for a Biomedical Engineer, GS-858-14 position, you must have: A bachelor's degree in professional engineering from an ABET-accredited program; OR A bachelor's degree in professional engineering that includes differential and integral calculus and courses in 5 of the following 7 areas: statics, dynamics; strength of materials; fluid mechanics; thermodynamics; electrical fields and circuits; nature and properties of materials; or other comparable areas; OR Be registered as a professional engineer; OR Be currently registered as an Engineering Intern (EI) or an Engineer in Training (EIT); OR Have successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination; OR Have completed at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences; OR Have completed a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or an appropriate professional field, with at least 1 year of professional engineering experience. In addition, to qualify for a GS-14 level Biomedical Engineer Position, you must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service, performing tasks such as: Creating and improving designs, instrumentation, materials, diagnostic and therapeutic devices used in healthcare and biomedical research. Evaluating trends and emerging fields in biomedical engineering research. Providing guidance on scientific program direction and funding. Preparing research highlights and reports summarizing key research accomplishments. Organizing and conducting workshops, conferences, or symposia. Education: This position has an education requirement.
