This position will focus on daily banking activity, investment transactions, cash flow analysis, performing complex journal entries, and balancing of the daily cash receipts. Under general direction, performs a variety of complex and professional accounting duties including technical, financial, and statistical analyses associated with a variety of significant programs, including the City's general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll functions and the formulation of operating and capital budgets. May exercise some technical and functional supervision over technical and clerical accounting staff.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Performs tasks related to the daily accounting functions of the Finance Department; Performs analyses on various accounts as needed for audit and other purposes; Monitors expenditure and revenue activity; Posts and maintains financial records for various accounts and funds; Participates in formulating, implementing, and administering annual operating budgets, including recommendations for budget adjustments as necessary; Assists staff in the analysis of monthly and periodic budget and expenditure reports, including researching variances; Provides analysis of other financial reports as required; Assists in monitoring and accounting for grant programs; Builds databases and spreadsheets of financial, budgetary, and other data; Assists senior staff and auditors in the preparation and completion of various financial audits; Makes adjusting and closing accounting journal entries and prepares or assists in preparing year-end audit schedules; Participates in the preparation of financial statements; Prepares clear, concise, and comprehensive financial analyses and prepares financial reports to illustrate the results of those analyses; Maintains detailed asset and depreciation records; Performs tasks related to banking, investments, cash flows, and daily balancing of receipts; Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and City departments; Assists in developing new processes or procedures as deemed necessary; and Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in financial accounting, financial management, business administration, or a related field. For degrees obtained outside of the U.S., an official equivalency evaluation is required. Experience: Two years of accounting experience, preferably in a fund accounting environment. Supervisory experience over technical and clerical accounting staff and experience in governmental accounting and fiscal operations, preferably at the municipal level is desired. Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid appropriate driver’s license. Possession of a California license is required at time of appointment. Special Requirements: Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment: Regularly work in a standard office; Regularly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery; Occasionally travel to different sites and locations; Must be able to communicate with others and to exchange information accurately; Regularly sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms; Occasionally to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch or crawl; Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
