Position Overview

The Casualty Specialist takes a special kind of mindset, one that can be objective and empathetic when dealing with policyholders. You'll investigate, adjust, and settle liability claims and medical payment claims. This position requires quick thinking and attention to detail as you'll determine whether the insured has the proper coverage, where the liability lies, and what the extent of the damages is.

A Few Essential Job Functions

  • From the comfort of your desk, you'll handle claims that involve liability losses (including bodily injury and property damage claims) and medical payment claims.
  • You'll work one on one in conversations with policyholders and claimants regarding casualty claims.
  • Determining parameters of coverage, conducting investigations, and interviewing insureds, witnesses, and third-party claimants is key. A willingness to initiate conversations and ask detailed questions is required.
  • Investigating and evaluating first-party medical payment coverage claims will be a major part of your duties.
  • You'll be negotiating settlements with individuals, other insurance carriers and/or attorneys, and processing loss settlements.
  • Reviewing demand packages in the assessment of an individual's injury claim is key.
  • You'll be handling telephone inquiries on claim status and coverage.
  • Completing appropriate verbal, written, and on-line reports to reflect and supplement all file activity will be a priority.
  • Setting and maintaining adequate reserves on claim files is required.
  • Obtaining and reviewing reports, statements, records, and related materials will be completed as necessary.
  • Using independent discretion and judgment, along with sound decision-making in the handling of claims is paramount.
  • You'll be expected to perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Typically requires 1-3 years of industry experience
Preferred or Specialized
  • Bachelor's degree in law or law-related field
  • Prior bodily injury casualty claims handling experience
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
  • Industry accepted Claims designations preferred
