What we need

Symbotic is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Cell Engineering team within our Hardware Engineering org. You will work as a member of the team in the conceptualization, design, analysis, fabrication and testing of Symbotic's automated material handling equipment.

What we do

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for working on the creation, modification and improvements of robotic equipment used in warehouse automation in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team .

What you'll d o

  • Create and design 3D machinery, tailor-made sets and subsets.
  • Assist project managers or other designers as required .
  • Provide technical support to the production of projects for which he is responsible.
  • Develop and modify tools and equipment devices of robotic cells.
  • Visit customers to retrieve data.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions for equipment or special components.
  • Search for products and components, contact suppliers.
  • Assist in the commissioning of equipment and participate in fabrication & assembly tasks.
  • Participate in the elaboration of maintenance & operations manuals.
  • With little supervision, elaborates, defines and plans work from relatively clear objectives .
  • Guides colleagues in their designing of parts, mechanisms, weldments and industrial structures
  • Provides professional advice and supervision. When necessary, implicates more senior engineers.
  • Elaborates and documents test procedures for prototype validation.
  • Helps supervise the work of others and ensure the respect of department standards.
  • Plays a key role in improvement initiatives with guidance from experts.
  • Validate critical mechanical components.
  • Contact potentially critical suppliers for specifications, cost, and availability.
  • Oversee design reviews and escalate to experts when required .
  • Identify and migrate the broader implications of design decisions.
  • Ensure a homogenous understanding of design intent across disciplines (electrical, controls and Robotics vision).
  • Coach and help develop less experienced team members.
  • Perform all other related tasks.
  • Up to 10% travel may be required


What you'll need
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering discipline or any other equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two years of work experience in a hands-on Mechanical engineering or design role
  • Pertinent experience in the robotics industry or other relevant field.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks. AutoCAD, other CAD software and FEA are assets.
  • PLM experience a plus.
  • Versed in design and drafting standards.
  • Understanding of fabrication processes (turning, milling, welding, etc ).
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Work, Outlook).
  • Autonomy and ability to manage priorities.
  • Availability to travel outside of the metropolitan area and abroad.
  • Ability to resolve and analyze problems.
  • Leadership and customer centered approach.
  • Team player skills, with discipline and concerned for quality.
  • Flexibility to work under pressure and in an environment where priorities change .


Our Environment
  • Up to 10% of travel may be required . Employees must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
  • The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
