Job Description Summary:
This position will be responsible for perinatal quality outcome activities including concurrent and retrospective chart review, observation of clinical and operational performance, data collection and analysis, and ongoing professional practice evaluation. This position will lead quality performance projects and ensure that all practices are within the latest evidence based practice guidelines. The Perinatal Outcomes Manager will collaborate with other departments within the organization including Emergency Room, ICU, etc. for optimal maternal outcomes. The position will use data from various data reporting sources to optimize care and perinatal clinical outcomes within the organization. The position will work closely with providers and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure quality care for all perinatal patients within the hospital. This position will also lead initiatives from The Joint Commission and other organizations including Maternal Level of Care Verification, Perinatal Certification, Baby Friendly initiatives, etc.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports the Director of Labor & Delivery/Perinatal High Risk in the routine daily operations and functions of the department.
  • Supports Quality initiatives by attending all OB Service Line Medical Meetings
  • Uses clinical expertise to assist in identifying and reviewing practice/events that fall outside established standards of care by nursing staff quality and safety triggers.
  • Coordinates and communicates significant clinical findings with leadership as well as staff members to support best practices and standards of care improvements through ongoing education
  • Assists and facilitates quality improvement efforts involving appropriate stakeholders for policy changes and or recommended changes within current practice
  • Manages local or statewide quality projects including IRB approval, multidisciplinary team collaboration, team planning, data collection and reporting.
  • Prepares special reports and performs chart reviews as needed for quality and safety.
  • Engages staff in the latest quality measures and focuses on patient experience
  • Engages staff in collaborative care with the patient being at the core of the decision making for their birth experience.
  • Works with the Unit Educator on coordination of quarterly drills for the department.
  • Collaborates with the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, etc. to optimize care delivery throughout the organization.
  • Coordinates the activities of the Quality Outcomes department with regard to regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborates with Medical Staff and hospital departmental committees in regards to any opportunities for quality improvement bases on strategic goals and objectives while focusing on best practices and desired outcomes for quality and patient safety.
  • Manages the quality of clinical metrics/outcomes from NPIC or other data registries interpreting and incorporating clinical improvement processes as needed.
  • Remains current on evidence-based practice and possesses the ability to integrate into process improvement projects as needed based on outcomes and performance.
  • Assists in onboarding new employees to the Quality Outcomes Department.
  • Facilitates educational activities and employee engagement within the department.
  • Provides input into the development and maintenance of the operational and capital budgets and monthly operations.
  • Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department and hospital, performing any related responsibility as required or directed and greets guests in accordance to our Guest Excellence principles.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
  • Skill and proficiency in the field of health care as acquired through completion of the requirement for Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Nursing required from an accredited college, BSN preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years OB clinical experience.
  • Skill and proficiency in area of chart review for appropriate utilization of resources and quality of care and safety issues.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care and interventions to serve women of childbearing age through the prenatal, antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum period as well as the neonate.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
  • Current licensure as Registered Nurse in TN. AHA Basic Cardiac Life Support, ACLS, NRP required within 3 months of hire.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge of accepted nursing procedures as acquired through 5 years of clinical OB experience.
  • Knowledge and training in process improvement and change management.
  • Experience with collaboration and facilitation of diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of hospital policy and operations, medical and nursing staff procedures, hospital and community resources.
  • Experience and demonstrated history of successful physician relations skills is critical.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Utilizes leadership / management skills. Knowledge and understanding of computer programs.
  • Analytical ability to analyze data and determine and/or develop needed strategies to improve processes and outcomes.
  • Project management skills including the ability to facilitate teams.
  • Technical knowledge of measurement techniques and change management tools.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office Suites and Windows based applications.
