Job Description Summary:
Responsible for performing, registration, receptionist, clerical, and transcriptionist duties related to the Sleep Disorders Center. Under the general supervision of the SDC Manager, responsible for registration, clerical, receptionist, and transcriptionist duties on a designated shift as scheduled. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Interviews and performs registration and/or pre-registration process for all outpatients by obtaining confidential demographic and financial data, enter information into the computer, secure signatures of legally responsible individuals, and provides instructions and assistance to patients and their families.
  • Prepares and scans all necessary registration documents.
  • Performs quality checks on scanned documents.
  • Initiates calls to insurance companies, employees, physician's office, and federal and state agencies for outpatient benefits.
  • Verifies and enters appropriate financial information, to ensure accuracy of the billing process.
  • Secures pre-certification and appropriate referral numbers as necessary.
  • Maintains and controls the outpatient registration process and traffic control at the reception desk accurately, professionally, and courteously.
  • Answers telephone and appropriate pages and relays information to appropriate team members.
  • Transcribes and/or takes by phone physician orders, completes related forms, schedules procedures via computer and/or manual process, adds forms related to the procedure to chart, and notifies licensed personnel.
  • Acts as a receptionist for the unit, provides information and assistance for all hospital personnel, physicians, patients, vendors, and the general public.
  • Calls insurance companies to obtain pre-certs and/or predeterminations on sleep studies.
  • Records, compiles, processes, and completes monthly statistical information on a routine basis.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort.
  • Assembles patient's charts; maintains charts, stamps and adds forms, posts lab, x-rays, and other related reports; dismantles charts, forwards paperwork to appropriate areas for processing as well to physicians and home health companies.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:
  • Ability to read, write, spell, utilize correct grammar, perform basic mathematical calculations as normally acquired through high school graduation or the equivalent. 2-4 years college courses or work equivalent preferred.
  • Clerical training preferred.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
  • CPR certification recommended.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Clerical experience and knowledge of medical terminology preferred, but not requiredKnowledge of hospital and department policies, routine for tests and procedures, medical terminology, unit forms, and record-keeping, and ability to transcribe physician's orders as required through on the job training.
  • Knowledge in doing pre-certs and/or predetermination's preferred.
