Position Summary
The Assistant Dean in the Heller College of Business is responsible for helping to plan and manage all operational aspects of
HCB
business programs in conjunction with the
HCB
Dean, Associate Dean, and department chairs. Specific responsibilities are assigned in the areas of student advising, supervision of
HCB
staff and student workers, student recruitment and retention, college communications, and general academic administration.
This is a full-time, exempt, at-will administrative position that reports to the Dean of the Heller College of Business.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Master’s degree (preferred in business or related discipline)
Demonstrated collaborative approach to management, with the ability to serve as a representative and spokesperson for the College within the Roosevelt community.
Strategic thinking and orientation, ability to deal with emergent issues and handle multiple projects and constituents simultaneously.
Excellent organizational, communication (written and oral), interpersonal skills, and attention to detail.
Demonstrated analytical skills, and the capacity to execute under pressure.
Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Previous Ellucian/ Banner or comparable

Basic office/ classroom equipment (desktop computer, laptop, office copier/ multifunction device, phone).
Working Conditions
Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition.
Travel between the Chicago and Schaumburg campuses will be required.

Provides day-to-day supervision of
HCB
graduate advisors to ensure student advising is being properly planned and executed.
Provides oversight and management of
HCB
graduate assistants and/or student workers, including selection of GAs (in conjunction with the Associate Dean), onboarding processes, tutoring scheduling, and project assignments.

Works with Enrollment Management and
HCB
leadership to help plan, manage and direct enrollment and retention processes to grow College enrollments.
Participates in enrollment-related meetings, helping to provide a student advising perspective to Enrollment Management staff and
HCB
leadership.
Works with
HCB
graduate advising staff to ensure the smooth enrollment of incoming graduate students, including identifying and working to overcome any barriers to enrollment.
Serves as the primary liaison for the Graduate Program with appropriate university offices including Student Success, Enrollment Management, International Programs, and Financial Aid. Gathers and analyzes data and feedback from advisors and faculty to determine barriers to student retention and works with Associate Dean and department chairs to identify solutions. Graduate student advising
Monitors the advising process for the graduate business student population.
Assists with developing educational plans and monitors student progress.
Approves transfer credit, program substitutions, waivers and exceptions in working with other staff and in consultation with the Dean’s office and Department Chairs.
Coordinates and assists with the advising process. This includes but is not limited to working with faculty, advisors, and transfer/ recommendations.
Maintains accuracy of student records and degree audits through use of Banner and Degree Works.
Processes and maintains accurate and timely data and records in compliance with
FERPA
guidelines.
Supports probationary students in returning to good academic standing directly, and through referral to available student services offered by the University.
Serves as an advising resource for faculty and staff.

Runs reports and gathers data/information from various University systems (e.g. Argos,
EAB , Analytics, etc.) to support decision making by Dean, Associate Dean, and department chairs.
Helps plan and execute on-campus College and student events in conjunction with
HCB
Executive Secretary.
Assists the Dean’s office in ensuring that the College is meeting deadlines for regularly occurring operational tasks (e.g. course scheduling, graduation audits, academic catalog updates, etc.). Represents the College on appropriate University committees (e.g. Undergraduate and Graduate Council, Catalog Committee, etc.)
Serves as Catalog Administrator for
HCB , working with department chairs to ensure the review and revision of undergraduate and graduate course catalogs through CourseLeaf.
Oversees the review and revision of
HCB
community college pathways in conjunction with the Executive Director of Academic Partnerships

Assists Dean and Associate Dean with preparing and sending out College communications to students, faculty, and alumni audiences.

Helps prepare

newsletters, including liaising with
HCB
Deans, department chairs, and faculty to identify newsworthy items, writing content, and working with RU Marketing to produce newsletters.
