Job Summary
The R&D Engineer is a critical part of the new product development process within the IR organization and plays an integral role in validating products to ensure their readiness to move to the production stage. The R&D Engineer works closely with Product Engineers to build prototype products and set up product tests. The R&D Engineer will design the test setup and select the proper instrumentation needed to accurately evaluate the equipment . After testing, the Lab Tech presents and reviews data with the product engineering team to draw conclusions or recommend design changes based on the results.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, disassemble, modify, and test vacuum pumps and blowers using basic hand tools, pneumatic tools, and heavy lifting equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and circuitry preferred including experience with 3-phase power.
  • Set up and execute product tests per the specifications of the product engineers and manage test data in Excel, LabVIEW and other software formats.
  • Work with other engineers to troubleshoot and solve problems, assemble and disassemble products.
  • Help specify and apply proper assembly practices.
  • Collaboration with other Lab Engineers in other locations
  • Must be willing and able to clean, organize, and put tools and instruments away properly.
  • Work safely in a sometimes loud and hot environment around rotating industrial machinery.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Mechanical Engineering, or other related engineering discipline.
  • Advanced understanding of use and selection of instrumentation. (vacuum, pressure, temperature, power, flow, etc.
  • Experience with rotating machinery is preferred
  • Must have excellent mechanical skills and knowledge of good assembly and disassembly practice.
  • Must be capable to work safely in a fast paced, creative, results-oriented atmosphere.
  • LabView and data acquisition experience preferred.
  • Experience in 3D modeling software preferred (i.e. Solidworks or PTC Creo)
  • Superior analytical skills preferred with excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate a team work ethic and a consistently positive attitude.


Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Work environment includes inside and outside of an office environment.
  • Ability to communicate information effectively in person and via remote conference calls
  • Minimal travel required between other Ingersoll Rand locations such as Sedalia MO, Quincy IL, and Bentleyville PA (
