The Purchasing Manager is responsible for supplier development and overseeing the procurement of goods and services for the organization. This role involves developing purchasing strategies and managing supplier relationships, ensuring cost-effectiveness. The Purchasing Manager will collaborate with the Materials Manager to maintain appropriate inventory levels and work closely with various department to understand their needs and ensure the timely and efficient acquisition of necessary products and services. The Purchasing Supervisor reports to this position.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Procure / coordinate material for all orders placed with California Amforge
  • Research and source alternative suppliers to achieve the best price, delivery & performance.
  • Develop and maintain supplier scorecards working closely with the Materials Manager and other departments.
  • Secure material for contract with LTA Suppliers, while trying to keep prices down & sunset clause protracted.
  • Bring material in as needed to produce forgings from LTA inventoried / supplied material, by transferring material from LTA Supplier inventory / warehouse site to CAC.
  • Attend Quarterly & Releasable meetings where managers discuss status & material requirements for scheduled orders or assign to Purchasing and Planning.
  • Maintain all raw material orders; sustain delivery & status, update changes on quantity, delivery etc. when necessary. Verify bill of material specifications before placing orders. Close any orders short when necessary.
  • Assist in any way possible when material problems arise - Attend meetings regarding these problems, mediate issues with suppliers, notify account managers, when necessary, etc.
  • Quote steel for the Sales Department by supplying them with two to three different prices & deliveries, after verifying material specifications.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Ability to use Microsoft office applications and experience with MRP systems and processes.
  • Strong basis of math, writing and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position will require occasional travel to suppliers to develop relationships, provide feedback, and evaluate potential new suppliers.
