Spruce Environmental Technologies is looking to expandin its Radon Lab in Harrisburg, PA. We are looking for a Lab Supervisor to support the Lab Manager in the day-day operations of managing and processing radon devices through the analysis process so that reports are delivered to customers in a timely manner with a strong emphasis on adhering to internal quality controls.

For over three decades, through installations by professional radon mitigation contractors, RadonAway has been providing home and business owners across the country with reliable radon fans and radon systems designed exclusively for radon mitigation. As the Lab Operations Manager, you will oversee all aspects of operations at our facility. Your primary responsibilities encompass administrative duties, compliance with the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP) Quality Management System, and maintenance of state and national accreditations. You will actively participate in both internal and external quality reviews and audits.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

•Manage and supervise all laboratory personnel and procedures.

•Oversee the inventory management to ensure all necessary supplies and equipment are available and maintained.

•Design and implement efficient laboratory workflows and processes.

•Assist in planning experiments and interpreting test results to ensure high-quality outcomes.

•Ensure that all staff activities and laboratory tests comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

•Collaborate closely with the Director of Laboratory Operations, Quality Assurance Team, and other departments such as Human Resources, and Engineering and Operations.

•Monitor and report on site-specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to lab management.

CORE DUTIES

Safety and Compliance

Ensure that the laboratory complies with legal, regulatory, and organizational standards. Promote a safe and secure working environment, adhering to health and safety guidelines.

Strategic Leadership

Work with the management team to advance the overarching strategy and direction for the laboratory's growth and development. Foster an environment committed to upholding and implementing the laboratory's Quality Assurance Plan.

Policy and Procedure Oversight

Ensure that the laboratory operates in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and quality.

Quality Assurance

Oversee the effective implementation of the Laboratory Quality Systems. Ensure that quality control measures are robust, ensuring the reliability and accuracy of laboratory results.

Team and Talent Management

Lead, mentor, and manage the laboratory team, promoting a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and improvement. Ensure that the team has the necessary education and experience to perform their roles effectively.

Client and Stakeholder Communication

Act as a key liaison between the laboratory and external clients and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and collaboration. Maintain professional relationships and networks to enhance the reputation and visibility of the laboratory.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure that the laboratory's operations and practices align with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and standards. Stay abreast of regulatory updates and ensure timely compliance and adaptation of new requirements.

Relative Experience:

  • The Lab Operations Manager must have a background in environmental laboratory management, preferably in the fields of radon, radiochemistry, nuclear physics, or related field.
  • Experience should include a thorough understanding and administration of laboratory quality management systems according to the NELAP standards.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented while paying close attention to quality control, standard operating procedures, staff training, and related documentation.
  • Must demonstrate strong logical reasoning and critical thinking skills, excel in problem-solving, and efficiently absorb and apply the latest information.
  • The candidate should be adept at working with Linux-based systems and in-house developed applications, ensuring seamless integration and operation within our technological environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams), to effectively conduct data analysis, generate reports, and manage routine communications expected.

Education / Background:

The Lab Operations Manager should have a bachelor's degree in physical science engineering, or health physics. In lieu of the educational requirements, experience working in a radon or radiochemistry laboratory is acceptable. Certification by the American Academy of Health Physics is also acceptable.

Expected to obtain and maintain the NRPP (National Radon Proficiency Program) Radon Measurement Professional certification as well as the Radon Measurement Specialist credential for NJ and FL.
