Key Duties:
- Perform preclinical research surgical, interventional, medical procedures on animals.
- Contributes to business development activities as a subject matter expert (SME) by generating strategy and proposal documents, data analysis, report writing, research protocol writing, and standard operating procedure (SOP) development.
- Support the business operations to maintain compliance with APHIS USDA, OLAW, FDA, ISO regulations.
- Write pre-clinical research reports for regulatory submission.
- Provide oversight for research equipment, equipment maintenance, calibration, validation and preclinical research surgical supplies.
- Leads the development of new pre-clinical research models.
- Provides mentorship, education to the animal care, veterinary, and surgical technical staff.
- Supports emergency care of research animals, disaster and emergency recovery efforts.
- Supports pre-clinical research business, personnel, supplies, and equipment as needed to maintain licenses, certifications, validations, and accreditations.
- Supports and advises on research logistics, planning, training, and the execution of research animal protocols.
- Provides leadership and strategic business support to pre-clinical research operations. Collaborate across multiple business units, consult on research projects, perform various aspects of the pre-clinical research
- Research protocol development, research report writing, necropsy support, emergency support (after hours, weekends, holidays), technical staff education and training.
Education/Experience:
- Doctoral degree in veterinary medicine plus 2-5 years of directly related experience in surgical procedures, anesthesia, and/or specialty area of animal care
- Thorough knowledge of preclinical research related legislation, principles, practices, and surgical techniques.
- Expertise in research animal surgical, interventional, models
- Expertise in research animal models, anesthesia, intra-operative, and post-operative care
- Expertise in pre-clinical regulations, USDA, OLAW, FDA, AAALAC Accreditation
