SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: The Elko Justice & Municipal Court is currently recruiting for a full-time Pre-Trial Services - Deputy Court Clerk II. Individuals in these positions perform a wide variety of duties in support of the Court including investigative, legal, and other complex clerical work. Successful applicants will work under the direction of the Court Administrator and/or the Assistant Court Administrator. This position may include working weekends and holidays. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Effectively conducting interviews with defendants; Collecting, compiling, and analyzing information collected from defendants and court computer systems; Tracking arrests by law enforcement, notifying applicable agencies, and sending authorization for the release of defendants when ordered; Interacting with and providing information to Judges, court personnel, litigants, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other interested parties; Assisting court customers over the phone, via email, over Zoom, and/or in person; Entering, reviewing, and verifying data in the court’s case management system and other computer systems and applications used by the court; Preparing and reviewing a variety of legal documents, checking for completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with the law and rules of the court; Assessing levels of supervision required for defendants by completing the Nevada Pre-Trial Risk Assessment form, conducting a criminal history audit, and/or other investigative means; Assigning and monitoring a defendant’s release conditions after a court order; Scheduling defendant check-ins and court hearings with litigants, attorneys, and other parties; Clerking for court proceedings that are conducted in the courtroom, in-person, or via Zoom; Preparing minutes and otherwise documenting actions taken by the court; Accepting legal documents for filing and placing documents received into their appropriate case files; Processing payments of fines and fees at the court window or over the internet; Operating a variety of office machines and equipment such as fax and copy machines, recording equipment, and computer terminals. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or equivalent. Any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. Must maintain a valid Nevada driver’s license. Knowledge: Knowledge of basic office operations. Extensive knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office Software and personal computers. Working knowledge of the English language, including spelling, punctuation, grammar, and vocabulary. Skills: Demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills. Administering projects and office operations effectively. Dedication to a collaborative, supportive work environment. Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing. Abilities: Ability and willingness to learn court proceedings and legal proceedings. Maintain appropriate confidentiality. Complete work in an accurate, efficient, and effective manner. Establish and maintain working relationships with judges, co-workers, and the public. Communicate with the supervisor, coworkers, and the public in a clear, concise, informative, and polite manner. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment. Ability to interact professionally, communicate effectively, and exchange information accurately with all internal/external customers. Read and understand a variety of legal documents and the procedures related thereto. Listen carefully, understand, and transcribe concise notes using appropriate grammar and punctuation. Work under pressure and maintain composure in stressful situations. Multitasking is essential. Maintain a professional attitude and appearance when performing office and courtroom duties. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Strength and stamina to be sedentary. Ability to appropriately handle stress and interact with others, including supervisors, coworkers, clients, and customers. Regular and consistent punctuality and attendance. Generally clean work environment with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, odors, or noise. Periodic contact with angry and upset individuals. Frequent interruptions of planned work activities by telephone calls, office visitors, and response to unplanned events.
