We are seeking a Sr. Back End Software Engineer to join our team at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, IN. The Sr. Back End Software Engineer will be part of the Counter small Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-sUAS) Electromagnetic Warfare (EW) web application development team. The position will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and providing code reviews for the server-side components of a PHP-based database web application. This position can be remote.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design solutions to coding needs such as authentication, user access control, database access, session management, data tagging, and secure data storage
  • Develop PHP OOP code in an MVC architecture for a containerized application
  • Work within project-specified coding standards and guidelines to meet customer security requirements
  • Perform code reviews
  • Provide decision analysis for potential solutions, outlining decision criteria, and potential risks
  • Develop automated tests using PHPUnit and Codeception
  • Develop efficient, secure, loosely-coupled functions for various project subsystems in native languages
  • Define necessary tasking and completion estimates for requested features
  • Interview product owner and stakeholders for additional clarification on feature needs
Basic Qualifications:
  • BS degree (Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent) and 7+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 5+ years of prior relevant experience. Direct experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and OOP design principles
  • Four (4)+ years of PHP web development experience
  • Strong skillset using code repository technologies such as Git/GitHub/GitLab, integrated development environments (VS Code, VIM, EMACS, XCode), CI/CD pipelines, automated test infrastructure, application containerization
  • Two (2+) years of SQL database development
Desired Qualifications:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, excellent team working experience
  • Experience working in a SCRUM team
  • Experience working with Model-Based Systems Engineering practices including reading modeling diagrams in SysML or UML
  • Basic understanding of PKI/PKE infrastructure, CAC authentication mechanisms, and DoD security processes
  • Experience working with NGINX web server and MySQL / MariaDB database
  • Experience deploying applications in AWS cloud
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Strong ability to work independently
  • Excellent knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure and protocols such as SMTP, push/pull notification systems, multi-factor authentication, AWS cloud environment, microservice architectures, containerization, and computer network engineering principles
